Hey all My mom ended up getting the whole macafee package through comcast..as it's free with your service. I got mine too and installed it on my husbands computer that we run off my internet connection as well. My norton subcription runs out on Dec 26th...and I'm thinking I'll just use the free service from comcast and save myself the 50 bucks upfront for norton, etc. So far my mom's computer is working great now...I'm starting to wonder if a lot of her problems were coming from the norton??? not sure My husband's computer is working fine...plus he has virus, firewall ,and privacy protection. I think I've always been afraid to try macfee because I heard it wasn't very good. But even I can admit that might be hearsay. What does everyone think in general? If it works...I'm all about saving money. It's not like money grows on trees at my house and I could always use avg and or avast if I have too.l... thanks all
I've had no issues with the free AOL version of Mcafee, however AOL's anti-spyware software is severely lacking so I have SpySweeper installed instead. -Jay
I have been using the McAfee for years & haven't had a problem yet with it. It's also free with Comcast, and includes the whole suite. It's like cell phones, I find some people like & prefer 1 over the other & what works the best for you is what counts, as long as it stops or finds virus's that's the key thing. When I worked on the J&J Help desk, all the reps computers had McAfee on them.
I have to say I've got massive problems with Mcaffee, it's missed several viruses as stated above, been behind on more than a few of the big ones, and generally isn't as thorough as I prefer. However, also as stated above, it's all in the taste. I've said in other posts I use avast pro and I have for the last 3 years, Symantec and Kaspersky are just too, hmm, clunky when it comes to running their full suite. You can't go wrong with Avast Home, they make their money off of business users so their non commercial version is free. Give em a spin.
My laptop came with Macafee, I did not care them my system ran much slower despite plenty of hard drive space. I went with the advice of others and use Avast and Adware SE, I also use the free Norton spyware in my Yahoo toolbar so far I am happy.
Norton has only missed a few viruses. Norton also slows down your computer. I think NOD32 is the best.
as said everone has differant taste as to what is better. also i think common sense plays a role too. as in downloading something that has exe at the end and you have no idea what it is.:loony: i have norton on my laptop, and it seams to be alright.
I have used McAfee since I got my Comcast over a year ago- used to have Norton and I have to say I like McAfee much better, but just like others mentioned, it's all in your taste.
Well, all anti-virus programs have their disadvantages, we have mcafee, and haven't had any problems, (knock on wood), pc magazine did a review on suites, you can find it here: http://www.pcworld.com/article/125857-1/article.html
