Same here, 1st thing in June, I wanted to wait until I got my bills for the 1st month since moving into my own place. DSL flat rates are available for around 20 to 50 Euros depending how many MB(its)/s you want. I'll be happy with 1.024 MB(its)/s. DSL - Da Serious Life
Serious, Larry?? Wow, I thought you had DSL or cable. I think Yahoo! SBC is running a special for $19.99 the first three months or something if that helps What DSL options do you have available in your area?
My best friend in Germany has DSL, but he is only allowed so much transfer per month, so towards the end of every month he doesn't access the internet
Hey!!! I thought that when I made my thread a couple of months ago about finally upgrading to DSL, I was like the last person on earth to make the switch!!! Not right... not right at all!!!
Yes I've seen the SBC Yahoo deal and that's what I'll probably end up getting. But I don't think I'm going to do it for a couple more months. I want to get a new 19" flat panel monitor first.
He has what is called a volume tariff. You can get these in up to 20 GB blocks and then once you exceed that you pay something like 1,5 cents per MB.
Haha, in all honesty, Larry, Sprint has never tried to rip me off, Qwest has done that several times. Sprint deserves better than Qwest.
Andy hows it going I have qwest for DSL as well and I have never had any problems with them. Have you ever thought about going with Comcast??
i ahve but they didn't really have any great deals when I was gettign DSL, but if they are going to cut me a good deal I will switch in a heat beat. I hate Qwest so much I didn't even use them for my local phone service until I needed DSL.
I'm switching over to DSL this month as well. Germany's DSL market is very flexible with a large number of possibilites .
What type of package do you get ShoresGuy (is it unlimited, a certain amount of GB's, etc.)? How much per month is DSL? What is the fastest type of package that you can get for personal use? Do they have cable, T1, T3, etc?
1) I will get an unlimited DSL usage plan. Here in Germany, it is known as a DSL flat rate. The provider of my choice (1&1 Internet) is offering a flat rate for 7 Euros per month plus the monthly 19.99 basic fee (no way around this, this is normal in Germany) and the DSL modem is being offered at no charge. The biggest names here are T-Com/T-Online (Deutsche Telekom's landline and ISP divisions), 1&1 Internet, Lycos, Strato, freenet, NetCologne (native to Cologne where I live) and WEB.de among others. You can also get the old-school data block packages. AFAIK, these are normally measured in 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 GB blocks. Once your block has been exhausted, you pay between 1 and 2 cents for each exceeded MB. 2) The speed I have seen quoted for that price is 2.048 Mbps. I'm not sure what the fastest T class speed is. The highest speed I have seen online is 3 Mbps. If I recall correctly, T1 is 768 kb/s. In the last year or so, the download speeds were upgraded to 1.024/2.048/3 Mbps.
