you mean I can buy an (RED)RAZR V3m from anywhere and change it so it works on the Alltel system? I've wanted this phone because of the AIDS project but Alltel hasn't joined the (PRODUCT)RED cause.

On Howard Forums, there are instructions that talk about how to enable evdo, vcast, mms messaging, get it now and a lot more on the v3c, couldn't you just follow Those instructions for the v3m?

Still waiting... are we almost set cincy? Or is there a good runthrough on this allready? I'm getting stressed out because all I hear from my wife is how much of a pos her phone is, it kinda sucks on my part cause I spent soo much money on that damn thing and because of the vzw firmware she hates it with a passion.

While I wait, I play. I am trying to find where Verizon hides things on the TransFlash and playing with what works and doesn't if I use the card in the adapter to move files.

You have to admire the evil genius of Verizon. It takes some doing to take a great phone and make it a profit maker by disabling features that were part of the design by Motorola.

Once I get to the point where I hack (Cogito ergo hackum) I will never pay Verizon more than my monthly fees.

If I could only convince my wife that there is no point in using Mobile Web when we have a PC with high speed access....sigh.

So I'm about ready to flash my phone, but I had one problem when backing up my stuff using PST. I got an error that said MMS Data configuration wasn't supported, or something like that, so I couldn't save the .mms file.

So I downloaded the one in Mark Venture's tutorial, figuring I might be able to just use that one. Is that the case, or do I need to figure out how to get mine to back up?

If it matters, I'm using PST 7.23.

Yea, the reason u couldnt get it was because u have PST 7.2.3. You need 7.2.5 in order to successfully pull the MMS Data file without error. You should try your best to get 7.2.5 so u can backup ur own data file. But I do believe u can get it to work using his if that is the only one u cant get.

    EDIT:

On second thought, I am looking at min e vs Mark's, and u will be better off pulling ur own MMS data file. It contains the proper info. It will prevent more headaches.

Alright, I'll see if I can find PST 7.2.5, but I haven't been able to yet. I haven't tried incredibly hard, but yeah.

    Thanks, Cincy.

    Edit:
Alright, I found it and it worked. Woohoo.

So before I go sending anything from my phone to anyone else, I was curious if the MSS data files are different for each phone or something, and I don't want to mess anything up, you know? If anyone can assure me it would be okay to give that stuff away, then okay. But until then, I guess I'll just wait?

MMS will contain your phone number in the album upload address field. Other than that, it doesnt contain any personal info. Just look at the file before sending it, and remove any traces of ur phone #

Woot! I flashed it, and it's awesome. Well, except for a few problems, which look like they're the same problems everyone else had. Not WAP, GIN, or MMS.

And BitPim won't let me get into the file system. Do I need new drivers now or something?

Yea, the common probs are with MMS, GIN, and WAP. What are ur symptoms?

    GIN: error message 554?
    WAP: Authentication failed?
MMS: stuck at 0% when trying to send?

If so, a simple call to CS telling them that your GIN stopped working will probably solve this problem. Dont tell them that u flashed or anything. Just call them, they will prolly have u shut off the phone. They will reprovision your data service. Then they will have u turn the phone on, and then do a *228 option 2 update. Do what they say. Then they will have u restart the phone. As a note, when u get it turned on, EVDO will be re-enabled (b/c of the *228), so quickly go in and disable it like u did before. Once it is at 1x, test out the data, and it should be good. Dont tell them that u are forcing 1x, etc, just pretend u are doing something else ;) Also, I keep my phone on silent so they dont hear the Alltel startup/shutdown sounds, haha.

As for BitPim, I have my phone working perfectly, and I cannot get BitPim to recognize my phone. Its strange, b/c I flashed my bros phone the same way, and BitPim works perfectly with his phone on my same comp... :headscrat

    Those are the exact symptoms.

As for bitpim, I can get to the first level of the file tree, but when I try to go any further, it doesn't load anything. It worked long enough to changed the outside image to a motorola one instead of alltel, but that's it.

I added to my post above how to remedy those symptoms. It is exactly what I had. As long as u are sure u did ALL the fixes by seem edits, the Mobile IP fix, and making sure u forced 1x, it should fix ur problems. Which tutorial did u follow again?

I just called CS and acted like I didn't know what I was doing while I disabled EVDO again. But yeah, I just sent a picture to my girlfriend, and she got it.

    Woot!

Yeah, everything works, I think. I haven't set up free WAP yet, but I'm going to do that sometime tonight.

But as for now, my friend and I are playing his Wii.

Mark Venture's tutorial says, "Prior to writing to phone... Locate the Album Upload Address field, it says <min>@pix.vtext.com, replace <min> with your phone number. So the field reads: 9995551212@pix.vtext.com." Does that answer your question?

Everything works now, and I love it. This UI is way better than Verizon's, and my friend wants me to flash his V3c now.

I'm having the same problem as you guys with bitpim, had to start using p2kcommander. Some people have said that downloading a new driver will do the trick, I believe the driver is posted in here somewhere, for "motorola accessory."

Also, just fyi for anyone else who's doing this or about to, you can also fix your data services by logging in to your account at the verizon website and going to the my phone tab, click "activate phone" link, choose existing or replacement equiptment, and entering in a different ESN (you can do it for another EVDO phone if you have one, but I don't have one and I just changed the last digit on my ESN and it worked) waiting until your phone won't make calls anymore, and then switch it back. This avoids the CS call. Very handy.

Poly, thanks for the ESN info! I might just have to try it :) I knew about doing the ESN activation, but like you, I dont have a spare EVDO phone sitting around to switch to temporarily.

If u find the BitPim driver, let me know. I like being able to overwrite the files instead of having to rename the file. In BitPim, i can name my (verizon.gif) as whatever I want.gif and just overwrite and it is good. But using p2kcommander, u have to name it verizon.gif, then upload it over the original, its just an extra step i dont care to take.

That's the post I was talking about. I used that driver, and I still can't get bitpim to work. But some people have said that solves the problem. So, maybe it will for you. And then I'll be jealous, hah.

I got some questions, Benso, since you just said you sent a photo to your girlfriend, what service do you have running on your V3m with the V3m Alltel Firmware? I'm curious as to, do you have Alltel and thats why its working? Or are you guys actually fully flashing the phone to where you can use MMS and all the other features of your service (non alltel)? Cause Both me and my Fiancee have Cricket, we spent the 65 flippin bucks on each phone to have them flashed to cricket and our accounts activated onto them. But when done that way, we can't use Picture Messaging or anything else like that. All we can do is Text and make phone calls.

Am I right, or am I just lame and not pimping out our phones enough?

I need to get my fiancee's phone flashed ASAP! I just played with it and its flippin slow with that verizon ui!
