Funny how there's was all that talk a couple of months ago about T-Mobile's parent company purchasing Sprint but it hasn't happened. At the time it kind of sounded like a done deal.

After reading the whole interview with Scott Ford, it seems like VZW and Alltel were in talks for quite a while. I think the DT-Sprint talks were probably similiar, but Sprint's situation is not as stable. They have too many projects in process that could go either way. Once they have a firm direction for Nextel and rebanding is complete, we'll probably hear about more talks.

Speaking of that, in the past few weeks I've noticed Sprint is finally building synergy sites in my area. Almost every Sprint and Nextel sites now have two types of panels. I'd be curious to know if Sprint now has signal in my house, but I don't know anyone with Sprint. I've also noticed places where Sprint panels are now gone. Probably an indication that sites are being merged into one location where Sprint and Nextel were nearby.

How nice of Alltel to mention their failings at landing a different merger/takeover in the past. Too little, too late. Sounds to me like a little saving face on their part.

That was a good article with Ford. I cant believe they tried to pick up the old ATTWS at 38 million. They would have needed some serious backing. If you remember they had to sell of they wired side of Alltel to finace Western and Midwest deals.

From what I remember, SBC & BellSouth had to borrow money to pay for the AT&T Wireless $41 billion all cash deal, beating out Vodaphone's $38 billion offer. Other interested parties (Alltel, Nextel, T-Mobile, NTT DoCoMo) dropped out early.
