P2K is an acronym used to describe the program that interfaces with your cell phone

Ok so I have the Alltel Motorola V3A and I followed T9's steps for this.. BUT THERE IS A PROBLEM

When I hook the phone up to my computer with MSU running it CANNOT DETECT THE PHONE, Motorola Phone Tools said that it cannot do it because the phone may be newed than MPT software.

Therefore I cannot even get to use P2K Commander because MSU won't work... any thoughts?

I know these threads are kinda old but i just got my RAZR v3a and found this page via a google link. This does truely work and Iam very glad for that. The link that tech9 gave was inoperable the day I tried so I just googled the two programs and set to work.... One week later i had some other issuse w/ the phones and had to return them for warranty. In this prosses i learned that if I only convert the songs in that were bluetoothed to the phone they will all go away when you do a master reset and then a master clear. the phone virtually put itself back to factory. The ringtones that I transfered in via p2k stayed..............HMMMMMMMMMMMM. Tried it several times and that seemed to be the way it worked....... Havn't heard back from the manufacture yet. I has only been a week... I had one phone that had residual ringtones and one that did not........ Let the rest of you know how it works out later.... Tech9 , Thx again this was very useful

P.S. FYI I have ALLTEL. I got my phones in the end of sept. I donloaded Motorrola Phone tools and the motorola phone tools codec pack to make ring tones from anything..... Transfering ringtones b-4 the hack via MPT is as effective as bluetooth.(they also go away on a master reset!) you do have to have the motola codec pack to make this work or the phone will reject the ringtone for improper format...... MPT will not hold the door for p2k I've tried, the door SLAMS shut at the end of every data stream to or from the phone......Havn't tried to hack the new phones yet...... waiting 30 days to hear from manufacture on the two waranty phones incases there is an issue i don't end up w/ 4 junk phones, cause the new ones are doin exactly the same as the old ones(screen whites out at random and blacks out and locks up when using celltop) Try to keep you posted on the warranty details....

Upon reveiwing all the posts on this thread I think that formatt is the biggest problem w/ non working ring tones.... those of you having problems try using Motorala phone tools to make your ring tones and transfer them to the phone... I found it at Diggy Downloads for $5..... The codecs i was talking about, MPT prompted me to download them, and gave me the link and connected me to the sight. I think they costed $6.50!!!! So for $11.50 I ended up w/ motorola Phone Tools 5v the codec pack and a solid way to tranfer ring tones

To all those considering this option, Be very careful with the p2k comander....... I donloaded mine a month ago and despite several scans and other programs i just learned last night there has been a trojan horse virus in the auto start file all this time..... no damage was done to machine or programming, but who knows how much private info was sent out of my computer w/out my connsent..... When i opened the file my warnings went off..... Just be careful w/ that program........ No word yet on the warranty phones! ! ! ! ! ! ! I think all is well knock on wood! ! ! ! ! !

    Don't double...er...triple...er...quad post. It's poor form.

I can personally vouch for the integrity of the p2k commander file, as long as it is downloaded from the link provided, I cannot say for files hosted anywhere else.

I have personally used that file for a long time (I got my first Razr nearly 2 years ago!) and *never* had any issues with viruses.

That isn't to say that a virus you contracted from somewhere else couldn't have managed to corrupt one or more files that you already had, that's quite possible, but the file downloaded from hacktherazr.com *IS* clean.

My appoligies for the multiple post. I just wanted to get my info out there....As far as the corrupted p2k comander, I googled it up and downloaded it from a different website because the link was inop the day i tried to use it. The virus did come in on the program the day i downloaded it or at least it showed up in log files the first time on that day at about the same time. I was not trying to insult your credability or integrity! ! ! Once again I appoligize if you felt insulted.

:) :) I would just like to to thank Tech9 for the information.. I have been dealing with alltel for over 2 weeks and have been lied too numerous times, their excuse for the block on the ringtones was Motorola did this, well I contacted Motorola and they informed me that they did not that Alltel had done this is 2/08 but, the sales rep will not tell you that when you get the in our case replacement phone. My husband was fit to be tied when we could not put the ringtones that we wanted on our phones. We paid for them they are ours and we shouldn't be told what ringtones can be put on them.. Again thanks it works like a charm.. I have notified all of my friends about the alltel block and encourage all of you to also do so. This is a rip off that they don't inform you of and then you are SCREWED.

    Hi,

I have a similar, but different problem. I was able to successfully add a homemade ringtone to the ringtone folder using bitpim, but I cannot chose the ringtone. When I go to change the ringtone, my homemade ones aren't listed among the choices, yet they show up when I list the audio files. When I used MPT v5 to do this, the same thing happened, but I couldn't see the other ringtones. With bitpim, I can see all of the other ringtones, add my new ones, but still can't select them as ringtones.

    Any help with this issue?

    JF

Hi theer...I'm using windows Vista (32) and whenever I try to install MSU I get an error that says

    Script
    C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Temp\check_hotfix_for_ vista.vbs
    Line: 10
    Char: 1
    Error: Permission Denied
    Code: 800A0046
    Source: Microsoft VBScript runtine error

I'm legally blind & I use the ringtones to figure out who's calling me, so being able to hack into my phone to get them to work is very important. Can someone please help me?

I joined this forum just to post the following instructions. Alltel is my provider, and my phone is a V3a. I live in the country and only have dial up internet, so I was looking for a solution that didn't make me get on the internet every time to add ringtones. This method works great for me. I hope it works you others. Now for the guide! :)

The following is a guide to allow you to use your own MP3 files as ringtones in your Razr V3a using Motorola Phone Tools and Bitpim. Trust me. These step by step instructions are easy to use and easy to follow. With this method you use MPT too transfer your MP3’s, and BitPim to delete the “MyToneDB.db” file that isn’t allowing you to use your own MP3’s as ringtones.

I own Motorola phone tools 4.5. I can’t attest to any other versions, but I would hope that they would work as well. Thise instructions are for use when nothing has been installed on your computer. I don’t know if you will have to uninstall these programs if they are already installed on your computer or not.

Download latest Motorola USB handset drivers.
MOTODEV > Documentation & Tools > USB Drivers for Motorola Products > Handset USB Driver for Windows

    Download bitpim 1.06

    1. Install Motorola Drivers first before you install Motorola phone tools.
    2. Install Motorola phone tools
    3. Run Motorola phone tools without phone hooked up.
    4. When it can’t find your phone, hit “redetect” when the box comes up.
    5. Select cable on the next screen. Hit next.
    6. Make sure phone is turned on and hook up via usb cable.
    7. MPT will try to find your phone. It won’t find it. Click “NO” when it asks if you want to update the phone list..
    8. At the next screen click “yes” to install manually.
    9. Click “next” to configure device.
    10. Select USB Motorola modem. Then click “next”
    11. Check box marked, “Do not automatically select driver.” Then click next.
    12. Select CDMA phone, and select V3cm. Click next.

    The next page will say:
    Manufacturer: Motorola CDMA

    Model: V3cm

    Connection to: Motorola USB modem

    COM Port: TAPI modem

    13. Click finish.
    14. The pone will come up and you can use the Multimedia Studio to add your MP3’s that you want to use as ringtones. Add them to the Audio folder
    15. Close out of MPT.

    16. Install Bitpim 1.06.

    17. Run Bitpim.
    18. Select “find phone” icon

A box comes up that says “No phone detected/recognized. Run settings?
    19. Select “yes”

    20. For phone type select “Other CDMA phone
    21. For COM port select which Com port your phone is hooked up to. (you can find out by clicking “browse” then selecting “Motorola usb modem. Then scrolling down in the bottom box to see which com it is hooked up to. Mine was COM4.
    22. Click okay.

    23. At the top of the BitPim box select “View” and make sure the “View filesystem” option is checked.
    24. On the left hand side click on “Filesystem”

    25. Click on the Folder

    26. In the root directory you will see the file “MyToneDB.db” Delete that file.

    27. Close out of the program, unplug the phone, power it off and then power it back on again.

It will notice that there is no MyToneDB.db file and it will write another one with all the MP3’s that you have on your phone and make them all ringtones.

    You are Done!

One further note. I believe you will always have to hook up your phone after starting MPT just like these directions say. I don’t think it will automatically recognize your phone.
