I have an Alltel business phone. I work in Ashville alot. I have read the post about Alltel having service there but I have never been able to sync to an Alltel signal. I am always on roam.

I don't know what to say blsemp. Alltel has numbers for Asheville and if you enter their zip code on alltel.com it shows up as a service area. Online resellers that sell for Alltel also will accept a Asheville zip code for ordering.

Update your PRL? That's about the only thing I can think of. Perhaps you're running an older PRL that doesn't list Asheville as an Alltel market so Verizon or USCC are taking priority over Alltel.

That's what I was thinking, also. A PRL update should take care of your issue, blsemp. You can have that updated at an Alltel sales office or, possibly, by dialing *228 from an Alltel CDMA digital service area.

Alltel purchased a portion of PCS licenses that were AT&T that only covered a portion of BTA290. The original license over the Memphis BTA, Tupelo BTA, and Columbus/Starkville BTA was broke up and the counties in MS RSA 4 is what Alltel got. See this post from XFF in HoFo for more info...

Sorry no Memphis or Mississippi Delta... yet...

Thank you for the details, CrossroadsTech. I never expected to see BTA290 chopped down that finely. I thought having the three initial CO codes (NPA-NXX) was enough confirmation. Perhaps Alltel is entering Memphis as a CLEC (we already have a SBC cage in my CO).

The PCS license will help Alltel fill in between their northeast and central coverages in Mississippi, right?

Definately! Alltel now officially markets to consumers and businesses in MS 4. Right now all that is built out is approximately 6 cell sites along I-55 in Yalobusha and Grenada counties (where AT&T TDMA/GSM was built). I'm pretty sure once the AT&T conversion is complete and Cingular/AT&T turn off their TDMA/GSM, Alltel will begin building out and fill in the hole between Starkville/Columbus and Tupelo.

There is gossip that Unicel is in the process of selling out operations or something in Mississippi. I'm personally hoping for a property swap. Western Wireless Kansas for Unicel Mississippi and expand Alltel's footprint to include 800mhz in MS 4 as well as get MS 1 & 3.

A CLLI ending in -CM* indicates a wireless switch, not a CLEC switch. A CLEC switch CLLI would end in something else, probably -DS*, -DC*, or -PS*...

Something else funny: I checked the LERG (the true, current Telcordia data, not telcodata) earlier while I was checking work email and the current LERG lists neither the three NPA-NXXs nor the CLLI as valid. I wonder if Alltel actually had them at one point and had NANPA/TRA reclaim them...I have seen cases of carriers, almost always CLECs, requesting numbers from NANPA and CLLIs from TRA for future buildouts only to change their minds and have NANPA/TRA take them back.
