So I flashed my Verizon phone to Alltel, and it's been great. Everything I've noticed is better about it, except one thing. When I set a ringer ID for a contact, the phone uses that ringer ID both when the person calls, and when they send me a text. That gets pretty annoying when my phone wants to play a 20 second song clip every time I get a text, as opposed to my short little Final Fantasy fanfare.

Is there any way around this, or should I just give up ringer IDs?

Alright, judging from another post I found that I didn't find before, I can't get around this problem. It really kind of ruins the fun of having tons of ringtones on my phone. Lame.

After you set the ringtone, try changing the main text messaging tone for all. and see if that works. If not I'd just put the phone to vibrate for text messages.

No luck. I guess I'll just have to learn to look and see who's calling instead of knowing from the ringtone. Or I could leave ringer IDs and not know if it's a call or a text.

    Anyway, thanks for the help.

I know on the Alltel V3c firmware, I cannot set specific ringtones for certain people. But I can have a specific ringtone for calls and text's and vm's and all of that good ish.

Well, I can set a tone for texts and everything else, but the ringer ID overrides the text tone, I guess. Oh well.

Flashing is pretty much changing the firmware on the phone from one company's to another's. I have a Verizon phone, but I didn't like the Verizon interface or the fact that they lock some features that most RAZRs have. So I flashed the firmware to Alltel, making my phone look like an Alltel phone would. It has the regular Motorola interface, but is still on the Verizon network.

Here's a site with a list of some seem edits.

I don't know anything about the call waiting thing. You might want to just talk to your carrier about it.

Well, I think you'd be able to flash it to Alltel, anyway.

Just do a google image search for "Alltel razr" or something, and you might find some screen shots.

dead link, user overload or some bs. Did anyone happen to save it or have a handy list of all the seem edits?

and is 3wy calling now an option on your verizon after flashing to alltell? Verizon says it is available at no charge, but I don't get the option when I get a call while on a call.

Anyone know if Cincyball has set up the step by step to flash? i'm still catching up on all the posts....

Here is what I always reference for the few seems I dont remember off hand: http://mark.cdmaforums.com/E815-V3C-Popular.htm

As for 3-way calling, it is possible on the Alltel firmware. However, I am on my bluetooth headset 95% of the time, and I know how to use 3-way that way, but have never manually dont it with the handset.

As for the flash tutorial, it just got to be very similar (obviously) to the one i used, and it just seemed tedious, so I stand by this guide: http://mark.cdmaforums.com/Monster1.htm

I have flashed about 15 phones using that method. Most of them go flawlessly, every once in a while I need to call CS once done to have them reset the data, but then all is good.

That site still works, but it seems like it goes down once a day or so. It kind of sucked when it happened while I was trying to go through everything last month.

The text ringtone and ID tone work fine for me. I just picked up my phone about 2 weeks ago maybe 3. I have different ringers for different people, and my txt message tone is the tone from ea "EA GAMES, Challeng Everything" :) but when people txt me i get that tone, and when someone calls i get their tone. so it seems to work just fine. My only complaint is that the stupid alarm clock doesnt work when you set it for the next day. I mean there is no option for selecting days. I have a post on it in the forums. I set it the night before and it wont ring. I set it to go off in 30 min or whatever and it goes off.

There might be a glitch in your phone for yours not to work. I'm guessing you obviously went through all the settings on your phone. Just checking :)

I still find that weird about your alarm clock. I have mine set for 6:30 am every day, and when it goes off in the morning, I snooze it a few times, but when I finally get up, I flip the phone open and hit the End Call button. This keeps the alarm set, but it doesnt go off til 6:30 the next morning. I think you must have a glitch in your phone ;)

I agree with you there its gotta be a glitch. I wonder if you have the same options as i do. I mean it only lets me set the name, tone, and the time. and there is no option for any days.

There shouldnt be any updates for my phone it has the latest firmware i believe. since i got the phone like 3 weeks ago.

Yea, when in there, I can set the name of the alarm, time, sound, volume. No option for days (which kinda sucks, the verizon UI has that...one of the few nice features). You can check your software by going to Main Menu->Phone Status->Other Information->S/W Version. Your should be the same as mine...NCR_01.1A.00R

Mine is the same, but it has Other Information right below Storage Devices. Something is strange. The only other place I could think it would be in is the Settings Menu, but I doubt it. That would be odd if it wasnt listed anywhere on your phone. Look for something called "Device Info". Other options in the menu we want would be things like ESN, PRL Version, etc.

and i remember at some point seeing something like that.

i have made a few seem changes but i cant think of any that would turn off or on that option.

is there a seem edit that would let you do that?

I highly doubt a seem would do that. And I myself have done all the seem edits that this phone needs and have no problems. That is really bizarre.

That's weird. I wonder why mine won't work that way? I have the sound from Zelda when you find a secret or whatever as my text tone, but when people with ringer IDs text, it still plays their specific ringtone instead. I've looked everywhere that makes sense, and I haven't found anything, so I just kind of gave up.

Yeah, I did the monster flash using Mark Venture's walkthrough over a month ago or something, and I've just lived with it this way.

This is true for my T-Mobile Motorola phones, as well, text or voice call, if you set a ringer ID, it will be that song no matter what method that person uses to contact you.
