i want to get the u prepaid plan from alltel however alltel's website wont let me purchase it because it states that they dont offer service out here. after looking at the coverage map and reading many threads on here it shows that it would work here. i have a friend who lives in florida where i can get the phone shipped but is there anything i need to do so that it would work here? something like changing the SID?

nope but you may have to 2-stage dial where you are for every call.

That means that you have to dial the number or select it from the phone book, then a message will come on asking you to dial it in again. It is only in certain areas, need to find out if anyone here has been there traveling with U Prepaid and tried to make a call. This wouldn't affect your per minute rate or anything, but can be an annoying until you get use to it. On the plus side, you'll always know your friends numbers and won't become phone book dependent :)

But hopefully it is not like that your area, it varies....

I had to deal with 2-stage dialing when I was in Wichita Falls, TX last month while roaming on Verizon's network. It was hit or miss when trying to call out.

Two stage dialing isnt 2 bad... when I tested it out, it was ok. I found out that if you want to block your number while roaming, dial the *67 + phone number. When prompted to enter the phone number, enter the number as instructed (1 + 10 digit number without the *67). Voila, the number will show up as restricted :)

Now that I think back on it, the problems I did have were probably caused more by my inexperience with 2-stage dialing than anything else.
