Alltel has released an update for the 6800 and the Touch, Update includes windows mobile 6.1, GPS and Alltel Navigation. It also includes a new version of Alltel Email which should simplify the process of setting up your email.

The Alltel Navigation, TelNav app is a very nice addition.

But you have to pay for that......At least with the new rom you don't have to do any "hacking" or whatever to get gps working. Just load up google maps or whatever app you want to use and the GPS works.

Well you do have to turn the Location Setting to "ON" but that's beside the point. :D

Most turn by turn navigation apps you have to pay for... The only advantage of something like Tom Tom would be the lack of needing an active data connection... aka onboard maps.

Telnav is free for the first 30 days....

I installed the ROM update and am struggling to get the GPS to work with Google Maps or Windows Live. Where is the Location Setting that you mentioned? When I use Google Maps all I get is "seeking GPS satellites"

Then it's working. It'll take a while to find it unless you do the AGPS hack. On PPCGeeks there is a thread in the Mogul section by Shadow Tech that he shows how to enable it.

So why do I have to hack anything to get what I thought was supposed to work after the ROM update?

Hey....followed the instructions on this page on PPC Geeks and it works great.

Yeah, had to install a registry edit cab and rework the port settings, but I get almost instant pick up now.
