    Alaska Communications Systems Expands CDMA Network in Petersburg
    Monday December 17, 1:17 pm ET


    ANCHORAGE, Alaska--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Alaska Communications Systems Group, Inc. ("ACS") (Nasdaq:ALSK - News), Alaska's leading integrated communications provider, today announced further expansion of its CDMA mobile wireless voice and data network in Petersburg.

    "ACS is proud to offer the best mobile wireless coverage throughout Southeast Alaska," said senior vice president of network and information technology, Anand Vadapalli. "Our second CDMA site in Petersburg provides enhanced voice and data coverage along the Mitkof Highway and throughout the Wrangell Narrows."

    Through ACS’ CDMA network, Petersburg residents and visitors will also have access to mobile wireless Internet connectivity. These mobile wireless data services are available on ACS cell phones, Pocket PCs, and laptop cards. All of these products are available at ACS’ Petersburg retail outlet inside Alaska Power and Telephone Company (AP&T), located at 300 North First Street.

    Interesting. Thanks. Not much competition up there I guess. Not a very high population density either when you get outside of the cities.

    Free roaming, rather. Verizon does not have licenses in Alaska. If you go on Verizon's web site and try to buy a plan in Alaska, it will tell you "No Service Available."
