Is the AIM on the cell phones just as instant as on a computer?

Is that true for all mobile AIM clients or only "AIM over SMS" ones?

AIM over SMS and the regular AIM i dont think are real time like the regular computer ones..........i think that it updates the buddy list and new conversations at certain intervals........it also depends on your carriers network..........some might use realtime connnections........some might not and it also depends on whether or not your using an application....i use the web-based client and it was really slwo but the application wasnt much better

The various networks have different ways of using AIM or other instant messengers applications. When I was with Cingular most of thier phones have an IM client for AIM, MSN, Yahoo, etc that works very similar to the version on your PC. A little more awkward due to the small screen and keyboard but still it worked.

With Nextel, they had an AIM client on thier phones. (been awile but I think I remeber and AIM client on my phone, or a way of getting one)

With T-mo they have thier own OZ client which can connect to AIM, and the rest, but not as clean. Many of us with BB's on T-Mo will use third party apps instead like Yak-On, Ramble as they seem to function a little better thant the client that comes pre-installed
