Is it safe to mess with the preferences or should I leave them alone for now?

I used to be able to log in once, then select "Member Entrance" after that. Now I have to log in each time. Can that be changed? Thanks

Is there a way to get to the individual carrier forums from the wireless site?

The WiForums software doesn't yet support Group Memberships so you won't be able to see the carrier forums on your phone. This may change in the future.

I'll look into the "Member Entrance" issue.

The wireless site has been working great. I now have a Samsung i600 and can't access the wireless site even though I'm using the WAP url. Is there a way to access it with my i600?

    Thanks

When I use the first two urls (specified in the first post), I get the page that states "this is the wireless site" and to select the image to go the the regular forums. This happens from my Samsung i600. Does the wireless site try to detect the browser and prevent the WAP site from displaying? I can browse other WAP sites from my i600 (e.g. HoFo works fine).

When I use the last url (the one with "wiforums" in it, I get a blank page.

    Thanks for any help.

To my knowledge Pocket IE does not support (on the basis of its accept headers) WML/WAP 1.0+ or XHTML-MP/WAP 2.0...however it will render WML pages.

Try accessing http://WiForums.net/mime.php via your i600, if Pocket IE presents you with a popup window requesting that you download the page, it indicates that the browser does not support XTHML-MP/WAP 2.0, and you may want to download NetFront browser instead (it supports WML and XHTML-MP, and includes the proper accept-headers).

The url gives me a message on my i600 that states "This file cannot be viewed on the device."

How does the WA wireless forum differ from HoFo? I can access the HoFo wireless site just fine from my i600. Are it, and the other WAP sites I can access, WML sites?

HowardForums uses WiForums 2.0 which outputs solely in WML, and does not check whether or not a device can actually accept WML. The developers of internet explorer and pocket internet explorer have taken a nonchalant approach towards following W3 specifications regarding markup languages, and browser accept headers.

IE/PIE only includes */* in its accept header. This is supposed to mean that the browser can handle all MIME types (markup languages, image types, etc..). This however is not the case, as IE/PIE does not support any XHTML spec, and as you've seen, does not know what to do when it encounters a true XHTML page.

WiForums 3.0 views the browser's accept headers, and looks for any indication that the browser supports WML and/or XHTML, in the case of IE/Pocket IE the browser (on the basis of it's accept headers) does not accept either, so nothing ends up being sent to the browser.

As I've suggested earlier, give netfront a try.

I just realized that your i600 is a smartphone, and not a pocket pc phone. Sadly, NetFront is not available for MS smartphones (and the developers have no plans to port it to the smartphone platform).

On a positive note, Opera for smartphones (windows mobile based) will be released in the near future.

A downloadable technical preview version of Opera 7.60 for MS Smartphones is now available for download at:

    http://my.opera.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=69630

The program seems to require roughly 5 MB of free internal or external storage space, so I have not yet been able to test it on my MPX200.

Well I'm using Opera now for this post. You better have plenty of room on your phone if you want it. I had well over 7Mb on my SD card and still could not install it there.

    Scottb,

I just purchased a 128 MB SD card for my MPX200 (running Windows Mobile 2003), and I had no problem installing TP version of Opera 7.60. If you have not tried doing so already, make sure that you choose "Mounted Volume" as the desired installation directory.

I have stumbled upon a couple of 'bugs' with this preview version:

    - It does not support automatic/timed page redirections, so the wireless forum will prompt you with a "Click here if not redirected message in x seconds" link.

    - Text which should be rendered as 'small text' are rendered too small. On my MPX200 the 'small text' is just about indecipherable.

Other than the above, everything seems to work fine.

The WA wireless forum seems to be inaccessible at the moment, however once JFB gets the forum back up and running you (and other Opera SmartPhone browser users) will be able to access the wireless forum :)

I cleaned off my storage card but still could not install it there-strange. I don't have any selection called Mounted Volume. Mine just says Storage Card.
Opera does some wierd stuff when entering text. I will keep messing around with it.

Will the wireless site be brought back up soon? I'd prefer using that from my phone now that I'm using the Opera TP release.

I've submitted two posts from the wireless site to this thread but neither appears. However, the list of threads reflects the time of my last post and indicates my ID.

    Thaddeus,

Which device are you using Opera TP on? It's obviously something in my browser/phone combination that's not working. I think this because I tried to post to the HoFo wireless site today and it never made it there either.

I'll post this on the Opera forums. Maybe they can help.

I was using a MPX200 (without the use of Opera's Mobile proxy).

At this point in time, I would only use Opera's TP browser as a last resort wireless browsing solution, there are a bit too many UI drawbacks and compatibility issues present. In regards to your issue, try posting a message to the wap.wiforums.net vB demo forums using Opera TP on your i600 (disable the mobile accelerator feature in Opera).

After browsing the MPX200 registry, it seems that you can alter Pocket IE's accept header so that it includes the text/vnd.wap.wml reference which will allow WiForums 3.0 (and other dual-markup applications) know that it supports WML. Doing so *should* allow you to browse the WA wireless forum in WAP 1.1+ mode using your i600.

    Try the following:

Download the PHM SmartPhone registry editor @ http://www.air***ev.com/downloads1.asp?id=18 (www.phm.lu is inaccessible at the moment)

edit... the domain name in above URL should be replaced with a i r f a g e v.com (excluding the spaces).

Copy the .cab file to your i600, and install the app.

In your SmartPhone start menu select 'PHM Registry Editor', then browse to the below registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SOFTWARE->Microsoft->Windows->CurrentVersion->Internet Settings

Push the left soft button(toggles the 'Values' option) select 'Accept Header' , then in the Value data section add text/vnd.wap.wml,

Restart your i600, and then try to access wa00.com in Pocket IE.

    Thaddeus,

There is no key called "Accept Header", nor is there a value by this name. Could this be the problem?

The keys under "Internet Settings" are:
    5.0
    Cache
    User Agent

Are you saying I should add a key called AcceptHeader, or add a value to an existing key? If the latter, which key do I add it to?

What goes in each field for the value?
    Value name:
Value data: "text/vnd.wap.wml" I assume that's where this goes
    Base:
    Value type:

I just want to make sure I add the correct entry. Thanks for your help.

    Scott

    P.S. I sent you a PM - didn't know which one you'd see first.
