Nice write up. I think the LG V20, Google Pixel XL or the Asus Zenfone 3 would be a perfect replacement for you.
I'm pretty sure you're spot-on re: sub-par components. In the case of my Samsung DLP TV croaking it was a subpar adhesive used in the Light Tunnel. The Samsung LED TV croaked because of the sub-par capacitors used on the power board. So it only stands to reason Samsung used a sub-par something in the Note 7 as well.
For the past 3 days I've been having issues with the S7-Edge. Today was the worst of it. (Actually, only one issue but repeatedly coming up.) When I take it out of silent mode back to ring mode, the icon will show engaged but then start flickering wildly, switching between ring, silent, and full mute. Every time it hits the ring mode, it dings. Today, there was no stopping it. I couldn't even turn off the device. I found I that I will be well within my 14 day return policy by the Oct.28, 2016 when the V20 is released. The only downside is ATT will charge me a $45 restock fee. This time, I am definitely getting the V20. I've given Samsung more chances than anyone deserves.
I thought you said you bought the Note at Best Buy? If so, did Best Buy have you return it to AT&T? and you picked up the S7 Edge from AT&T?
@palandri: As I recounted here, the series of unfortunate events including the initial purchase at Best Buy. Things went downhill from there.
It appears I may have been a bit rushed in my decision to acquired the LG V20. I read a number of reviews, but this one seems to echo the sentiments of most: http://www.jdpower.com/press-releases/2016-us-wireless-smartphone-satisfaction-study-volume-1 Essentially, as far as Android phones, Samsung holds the best customer satisfaction of all makers. LG is much worse! Maybe I just need to accept that even the best can, will, and does have issues.
So what are you going to do now? Wipe your S7 Edge and try again? or return it for another S7 Edge? or try something else?
This seems to be the year that everything sucked. From Apple's Touch Disease to flambe Samsung to putrid politics. I think I'll hibernate until 2017. (I am really burnt out on all of this. It looks like I'm keeping what I have for right now. If the problem gets demonstrably worse where I can show ATT, then I'll use my phone insurance for another phone.) If Samsung brings that "half price" sale to America, I will strongly consider that option. My wife's S5 is showing signs of aging, so likely we will both do something in 2017.
@KevinJames There's hope: Samsung might sell refurbished Galaxy Note 7 next year http://www.sammobile.com/2016/11/15/samsung-might-sell-refurbished-galaxy-note-7-next-year/
@palandri: Thanks. Yes, I read that about a day or so ago. Why Samsung would do that is beyond me. If I were contemplating a Samsung Note device, I wouldn't buy a refurb'd Note7, I'd wait for the Note8. By the time any of that happens, I may not be around anymore. But then, at the beginning of this year I told people I probably wouldn't live to see Dec.31,2016. Now it is looking that I will indeed make it that far. (Oddly, my body is taking its sweet time about completing its journey. I've seen friends with similar issues gone within 3 months. My doctor predicted I'd be incapacitated by now, yet I'm still driving. The only significant change is that I now use a cane for balance when walking and I sleep a lot more throughout the day. Oh, and I've developed that "old man" shuffle-of-a-walk.)
