Hi I am new to the sight and hoping someone can help out. I just purchased a Motorola A1200 and it works great. The only issue I have is I am unable to send and receive Picture messages. Text messaging is fine and I have confirmed with Cingular that I have MMS on my account. Has anyone had this issue? Does anyone know how to set the phone up? I got some setting from Cingular but when I put them in they still do not work. Thanks

It's an unsupported phone. Cingular's network doesn't know what to do with it because it isn't a supported phone. Other people have the same problem with unlocked, imported phones.

Actually, any GSM handset (Cingular or unlocked) that supports MMS and/or has a WAP browser can be configured to do MMS/Web/SMS. I had a SunCom branded (unlocked) Moto T725, which I successfully changed the settings to work with Cingular for all of those functions. Check out the following thread for info on how to change these settings on your phone:

Device & Software Settings - MediaNet, Data Connect, etc.

Hopefully this will get you up and running... much useful information there! Just remember, when Cingular says a GSM phone is 'unsupported' it just means THEY don't support it. It doesn't mean it won't work!

Ok this took time , but I'm good. So now you can benefit.

I would first go in and delete all previous settings, connections & profiles.

After proceed to Settings> dATA net> new internet profile.

Name: <defaults to profile1 which you can leave>

    ANP: wap.cingular

    user: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM

    password: CINGULAR1

    TIME: 15 min

    Pri gate IP: 66-209-11-32

    port: 80

    sec gate IP: blank

    port: 9201

    DNS: blank <unchecked>

    csd settings: <unchecked & blank>

    baud rate: auto

    line type: Modem

    time: off

    dsn: <unchecked & blank>

    save!!!

    NOW you can surf

As for MMS, make sure u created this profile first!!! and the proceed to the mailbox screen.

hit the menu in left bottom and service setup> MM > new>

    Profile: Cingular MMS

    MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com

Max send size: 200k(or highest available)

Net Profile: <the one you just created, profile1>

    save!!!

After inputting my settings you should also goto:

Main Menu > Browser (if you get an error message just hit OK) > menu > Setup > Profiles > Delete ALL old oversea profiles! > menu > New >

    Profile name : MEdia Net

    Homepage : http://device.home

Network link : select newly created profile from drop down list.

    SAVE!

It's all good, Happy New Year!

    Good Things...

On my A780 I used the cingular OTA and used the 551 edge setings and that wokred from the first try. All I had to do is log in to "My Account and changed the device to the 551 and sent the setting then made sure that tehy are the default. From there all was clear sailing.

My internet settings had been working and then stopped. Since then I've tried every setting that I found on the internet and I cannot get the internet to work again. I even have a new SIM card and my SIM works with the internet on other Cingular phones. The error I am getting is: "Network problem http://device.home/ "Any other suggestions?

If your SIM works just fine in other phones for internet/MMS, then the problem lies in the settings on your A1200.

I would choose the phone closest to your phone using the Cingular phone/device support page at www.cingular.com.

Then follow the phone/device setup tutorial links to "configure internet/browser settings" and to "configure MMS settings" to ensure the settings on your phone are correct.

Hey i had the same problem tried all the different config. on the web that ive found and still nothing works. I could send mms but i cant recieve. I also noticed the same thing when you save the settings to ISDN it goes back to modem, i dont know if that's the problem. I talk to a couple reps in T-Mobile and USA Motorola they said it may have to do with what kind of software you have in your ming, if the phone came from hong kong and the software ends with 53P that might be the problem. If you type WWW008W on your phones dial pad you will be able to find your software. Oh yeah go to your dial pad hit menu insert, tap insert wait, that makes the W, do the same step to get all the W's. If the first set of numbers end with a .53P then you might have to change your software by flashing it. Thats what they told me that motorola told them was the problem with HONG KONG A1200 mings. The software on the phone cant accept tmobile MMS, which really sucks. I tried it with a Different A1200 Ming with software 44P still the same thing, my guess all the A1200 that was manufactured in Honk Kong have this problem. Let me know if you find a way fixs this problem.

Anyways, so far this are the settings I have used

    Network Profile
Goto Menu > Setup > Data Network > Profile > Edit (if you want to edit the current profile) or New (if you want to create a new one)
Profile Name: TMobile (is up to you what name to choose)
    APN: wap.voicestream.com

Primary IP 216.155.165.50 (some people use 050 on the last set
which is the same than just 50)
    Port: 8080
    Baud Rate: 9600
    Line Type: ISDN

    Save everything
*The rest of the options on the profile stay blank

    MMS PRofile
Goto your Messages > Service Setup > Multimedia Message > Click on the Folder icon under Default Pofile and create a new MMS Profile

Profile Name: TMobile MMS (is up to you what name to choose)
MMSC: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms (now on a website
someone mention to replace http:// by MMSC: looking
    like this MMSC: 216.155.174.84/servlets/mms which
didn't work for me whether I left the space between
MMSC: and 216 or without the space MMSC:216)
Max Sending Size: 200k (no other size available
Network Profile: TMobile (or however you named it)

You might check your messaging service center number (in your text messages inbox setup or similar) - if it's not already +13123149810, try changing it to see if that solves your problem.

However, since you indicate your SMS and MMS both worked fine for several days, I suspect the issue is on AT&T/Cingular's end instead - and that something has become incorrect about the provisioning for these services within their network/to your account. Most likely a call to customer service at 1-800-331-0500, from a phone other than your wireless phone, is going to be necessary.
