I have to ask this to prove a point, and know the person I spoke with is totally clueless.

I was in a Verizon Re-sellers store yesterday about an inspection & started talking to the woman working there.

We were talking about the phones/plans & finally coverage and this is where she amazed me she actually sells these phones.

1st she said Verizon is doing a 2 week promo on the new plans with SMS & family plans were $79.99 with the unlimited SMS they just came out with. Well I haven't heard about it anywhere.

2nd she tried to tell me Verizon service is dead on Rt 22 between Bowcraft & the BlueStar shopping center, which I personally find that hard to believe.
Then to make it even worst, she said that Verizon has no service (or roaming abilities) on the Turnpike between Exit's 10 & 7.

Now I could believe the 1st location due to the mountain & the closest towers are about a mile away, but the Turnpike is got to be a joke.

To those in these area's, can I get a reply so when I see her in 2 weeks I have some ammo to throw at her.

She also tried to tell me Verizon use's 2 towers on higher end phones at all times & that's why there is 2 signal bar's on the displays & if I decided to get a pre-paid phone to try their service, I would have horrible coverage since I couldn't get both towers.
I was so blown away by this last statement, I had to walk out the door.

She's wrong abot the coverage, & wrong about the "Promo"....
VZW has just announced new, Permanent, "America's Choice Select" plans.
These plans are $20 more for single plans, & $30 over base price of the Family share plans, vs. regular AC plans, & give the user Unlimited Picture & text messaging to/from across all carriers & anywhere in the USA the fone has service. The FS plans include it on all lines on the plan.

Wow .... she must be on a large dose of some serious happy pills to be spewing that kind of nonsense. I know from personal experience that both of the areas she mentioned specifically (Route 22 and the Turnpike) have excellent VZW coverage. My girlfriend and I spend quite a bit of time on and around route 22, especially on the weekends, and neither of our VZW phones have ever had a coverage problem in that area, and in all of the years I have spent driving up and down the Turnpike I have never had anything less than excellent coverage. In fact, I believe there is a VZW antenna array on top of the office buildings right at exit 9 which would blow her "theory" right out of the water.

If you do go back to see this person again, maybe you could take a video of the conversation so you can share it with everyone!

I grew up on warren st right on the edge of bowcraft.....off of mountain ave in scotch plains. That stretch has exceptional verizon coverage going back to the bell atlantic days.

I kind of thought this, since I couldn't even think of these area's having issues with Verizon, especially the Turnpike and with the Rt 22 area they have a Corp. store across from BJ's.

I bet she doesn't sell many Verizon phones with her response & if I could I would video it and post it on YouTube.

    Which store?
Even the verizon people don't know what is going on half the time.
That Verizon store across from BJ's is always busy!
Even on the southside of scotch plains, westfield, etc. I have great coverage, and I have a treo 650 which isn't the best with reception "bars"
Verizon used to stink in the murray hill area, but now has good coverage.

The video would make her suspicious. Just get the audio without her knowledge. Wear a good sensitive headset connected to your phone, and set it to record in the "voice memo" feature! But you will need a SE or Nokia as those will allow you to record for a long time unattended. Your Motorola can't do that.

It's a Verizon Re-Seller in Union Center, they were on the corner of Morris & Stuyvesant Ave. but just moved onto Stuyvesant Ave. by the movie theater.
I believe it's Tele-net, they also just opened a Sprint store in the Center & have numerous stores in the 5 buroughs, with most in Brooklyn.

Like I said it sounded really suspisious & she claimed her husband has the "Q" and I noticed she has the Samsung a-930.

I really didn't think she was right on any of this info.

My other question though, is what in the heck was she trying to say about "2 Antenna's being picked up, and the 2 sets of bars show this?"

I have to say if they ever cover the area by me & Kean University better & Cingular doesn't come out with a shared SMS Unlimited plan, I may have to think about switching.

As for the audio recording bobolito, I may have to see what other "toys" I have to do this with.

What she may have been talking about with the two sets of antennas and bars is the EVDO and Voice signals. Most newer Verizon phones give you two signal readings, one for EVDO and one for 1x Voice/DATA.

Is Verizon coverage still somewhat lacking in your area?

Thanks Andy, that's what I was thinking it was, but sometimes I prefer to shut up before I put my foot in my mouth.

There is 1 area of Union & Elizabeth that they are lacking big time, in fact in 1 area our Deputy Chief couldn't use his Verizon phone at a fire scene, where everyone else with other carriers could & this was outside.

I also have a task force member that lives on the Elizabeth/Union line & he can not use his Verizon or Nextel inside his home.
Verizon is aware of this dead area & just can't get a place to put up a tower, I think they may try the roof of the new hotel going up though, it would cover the area, the train station, Kean University & Schering.

Yes it is a small world and nice job on the design it's a nice building and setup, they are building like crazy over there.
Besides the new Hotel by the train station, Kean is putting up 2 more dorms, 1is 8 stories and higher then the towns height requirement.

We go there between 2 - 4 times a day on alarms.

I wouldn't be surprised if she believes that the number of bars in your phone's signal indicator means how many towers your phone is receiving. That means most phones can receive up to 5 towers? LOL! ;)

I wouldn't put it past her either, but she showed me 2 sets of bars on the phone & said each 1 was a seperate tower. I did think it was the EvDo but as stated before I didn't want to insert my foot in my mouth, even though she wouldn't have known any better.
I probably could have told her it was a satellite signal & she would have believed me.

    Nice story. People are weird.

My favorite wireless store is my local Sprint store. It's horrible. They never believe you about anything to start off. I had to get corp to get them to exchange my 1 hour old v3m. Anyways...while they were "checking" the phone (ignoring the priority note on my account) they preceded to all talk. This one cute young guy (maybe 19) starts talking to this other guy, maybe 24 or so.

They talk about how the one guy (24) was having sex in the other guy's house with his cousin. He was congratualting him on "getting laid" and decided to tell *every* employee about it. Even the manager! Yeah...I was like WTF. How unprofessional is that? I know the University of Delaware has to be the sluttiest campus in the entire eastern seaboard, but that was gross. Everyone in that store uses Nextel and I don't think they know anything about Sprint. It's been a Sprint store since Sprint was here.

To make things better, the other corp store in the area doesn't do repairs anymore, so I have to go there. The other store and the HYTEK wireless (old Nextel franchise that now sells limited PCS) stores all know this store is awful. They've told me...but alas, they were the only store authorized to do a swap!

I pretty much figured she was wrong, heck if I have coverage with my SprintNextel & Cingular in this area, and being on a highway like 22 if they didn't I would think something was very wrong with Verizon.

I also tried not to laugh at her when she said this & the Turnpike were dead spots, I should be going back there soon & hope she is there.

the only place I was aware of when I lived in Scotch Plains was Murray Hill. Verizon was bad up there, but has improved.
I have a treo 650 which doesn't get great signal strength, but when I visit the folks on good ole' warren st off of 22 in Scotch Plains, no problems. No problems going to hoboken, taking 22 through Union (worst stretch of road in america, bar none)

I have heard they have improved in Murry Hill, which is ironic that they are in that area and coverage was poor.

As for Rt 22 in Union, it's a nightmare and I avoid it on the weekends at any cost.
My problem is this is one of my territories for inspecting, and I am out there everyday I work going to all those stores & dealing with the traffic.
If your ever driving through & see an older red FD car, 99% chance it's me.

For the cars in our town 1 with 2 SUV's a 1 P/U, all the rest are white now.
It's part of the keeping cost's down by not painting them red decision by the towns & is like all the police cars are now white with vinyl decals on them.

I went by this place Tuesday & they seemed to have moved out, now another Verizon reseller is moving in to the original stores location. Guess Verizon got wind of the statements. :p
