Make sure that you keep 'updating' MPT until completely up-to-date. You should get up to 4.12 or something like that. That should take of your problems.

I have a question the update 4.21a doesnt have the choice of media tools...or the whole crop thing...thats the main reason i wanted this...is it that it is in a different category or that i t jus dont have the choice

My question: I have the Motorola V3c from --Alltel-- (yes, Alltel, doggone it) and I need to know if I need the Moto Phone Tools 3.0 or 4.0. I've seen 'em both... Also, could anyone reccommend a good carrier in the Tidewater area in VA? Alltel's coverage is spotty, their plans expensive, and, sadly, I am in a two-year contract.

One more question: My phone doesn't have a SIM whereas I've seen Razrs from other carriers that do...does that mean that if I leave Alltel My phone will be junk?

You are better of with 4.0.

I would see about getting the MPT with BONUS CD. It contains more functions you can do and also had ringtones and other stuff like that on it.

Be sure to select your phone manually as CDMA -> V3CM

Apparently my brother's detected his as a V3M (how, I'm not sure, mine never did) and his didn't have the multimedia tab either, until I showed him the steps on how to set his up as a V3CM, now his works perfectly. There's a topic on here somewhere, just do a search for "connecting V3m" and you should be able to find it :)

I have a Verizon V3m and installed the Motorola Tools v4.21a and have manually activated the Multimedia studio but I keep getting a message when I try to trasfer files to my phone that says "Unable to communicate with phone" Any Ideas??? (I've also tried using the file transfer studio but I get the same message.)

Some people had to SEEM their phones to turn on the OBEX. You might give that a try.

    Hi,

what do you mean by "SEEM" the phone to turn on "OBEX"? I had multimedia studio with MPT v3, but when it upgraded to v4 it went away. I also cannot seem to manually select my phone type.

    thanks for any help

What phone do u have? v3m from verizon? if so, u dont have OBEX or OPP so I wouldnt worrry about that. Let me know the exact prob u are having. If you are interested in getting your phone working with MPT, u need to do some seem edits. (if u arent sure what they are, please search, there is PLENTY of info) Read this thread Here if u want more info how to get ur phone working with MPT.

ah, thanks for the reply, but I found what I needed shortly after posting that question... the problem was that I could not get the Multimedia Studio to show up in the phone tools... I found a link in a blog that showed how to edit the detect.inf for the V3c (changing the driver to the v3cm)... once I did that it's all good now.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I've updated to version 4.2.1a and now I don't have the option of using the Multi Media Studio. My display shows: Synchronization, Phonebook, Calendar, Text Message, and Internet Connection. Can someone tell me what happened. I have the V3M and Windows XP Pro.

    Thanks...Vince

    Hey Vince,

what I ended up doing was to edit the Detect.inf file (found in c:\Program Files\Motorola Phone Tools\)... Search for the section [V3c]. Edit the driver= line and add an 'm' at the end of it:

    driver=V3cm

Save this and then redetect your phone in the phone tools software.

I'm sure this is not supported nor guaranteed to work, but it did the trick for me.

    Best of Luck
    B

What you need to do is do a seem edit to turn your phone from a v3m to a v3mM. Let me know if u have ever done a seem edit and thus sounds familiar, or if u have no idea what im talking about so we can get you set back up!
