Just got my v710 and have a few q's...

    1. Can I change the wallpaper on the outer display?
    2. Can I set the outher display to stay on all the time when the phone is docked in a charger or cradle...
    3. Is there a way to keep a call active on speakerphone when the phone is closed (like on v600's etc)

    Thanks!

    1) no. The outer display wallpaper is linked to whatever color scheme the phone is using, and cannot be changed without reflashing the phone with a custom firmware image. You MIGHT be able to do it with BitPim, but you'd have to use BitPim every time you wanted to change the image.
    2) no. But why would you want to?
    3) I don't believe so, but then, I don't believe that it is possible on the GSM triplets models either.

1.) the wallpepr is annoying... id prefer a plain color so that i could read it easier
2.) my phone is docked in my bmw's center console. It stays closed while docked, but i like to be able to look down and see the time etc on it... My v600 worked this way...
3.) The v600 can talk while phone closed on speakerphone. Interestingly enough, it cant activate speakerphone until the phone call has connected, where the v710 can dial on speakerphone, but just cant be closed...

I guess it's a personal preference but I find the outer display very easy to read. I didn't like the it at first either but I'm kind of used to it and kind of like it now. The screen is bright and it is very easy to see even in direct sunlight.

As for looking at the time, BMWs have clocks no? :)

One thing you will like with this phone is the reception.

    ok...
#2 you can do, but it will stay on all the time and will drain your battery
#3 yes, you can but you will be forced to use the plug for the headset to keep it on, although you do talk using the speakerphone

if you are interested I can give you the links(if i can find them) but it involves some seem editing and can get a little "involved"

Oh, thats my v600 installed in the car... I have the v710 in there now, but havent taken pics... Just swapped out the snap-in adapter for the bluetooth kit... The v710 does not transfer the phonebook to the radio either which stinks... :(

Actually, it WILL drain your battery, because if you seem edit the outer display to stay on all the time, it will - regardless of whether or not it's on a charger. Also, you need to realize that the outer display of the V710 is an LCD display, not an LED/OLED display, and therefore burns through battery life more quickly than the outer display on the V600 did.

I'm still not really sure why you would need the outer display on all the time anyway - or, for that matter, why you would need the phone 'docked' in your console if you're using BT. But, to each his own.

If you had read the writeups on the V710 before you bought the phone, you'd have known that VZW disabled OBEX transfer, which is probably why your phone book doesn't transfer to the radio. This has been a known issue since the phone came out in August, and while there have been some minor improvements, VZW is not going to change their policy re: OBEX.

My outer display stays on all the time when I have it plugged into my car kit, or even my cig lighter charger.

    - Phone is docked to charge the phone and to give it increased reception with external antenna. For long drives, its much more useful that a charger plugged into the cig lighter, and is a much cleaner install...

I have read Verizon's policies on OBEX and the lawsuits against them, etc... Unfortunetley, in New Engalnd they have the bets coverage by far... I was waiting for the software update to come out ot make the phone stable with BT... As for the other things like phonebook transfer, I figured someone could seem edit it or soemthing like they could on my old v600..

I have the newer software as well, but mine acted like that even with the .30 version.

I just noticed that my outer screen also stays lit up when I'm on the car charger. Maybe it's the charger? I'm using the old one from my v70 and T720.
