Anybody here go from the LG VX 6000 to the Samsung 670, if so what are your comments. It seems to have all the features of the 6000 + flash & video clips. It is also smaller in size, and looks sturdier. Please give me your opinion. If I get this then I will have a 6000 in mint condition to sell. Thanks much for your help. PS: There is a post similar to this on the LG Forum
Funny you post this as I just did this very thing last Friday. I purchased the LGVX6000 on July 23rd and used it for about a week. Previously, I owned a Motorola T720 which mysteriously got Bacardi and Coke spilled on the keypad. ;-) I talked Verizon into letting me get a new phone early at the discounted price if I extended my contract and I had been eyeing the VX6000 for a few months. I read up on the reviews and it was rated very highly by everyone, so I decided to pick it up. I used it for a week and it was great. The phone is very sturdy and works like a charm with a very loud ringer and equally loud ear piece. My only pet peeves were: -It seemed like it was a little bulky compared to the T720 but not by much and I think it was mostly due to the camera portion which stuck out about a 1/16 of an inch from the surface of the phone. -Also, the ringer/vibrate mode worked a little funny. Phones I had owned in the past always vibrated for a while and THEN rang, that way if you were in a restaurant you could either answer or ignore the call before it started ringing. The VX6000 rang and vibrated all the same time, not a horrible flaw but a flaw none the less. All in all I was happy with it until I saw a co worker with the a670. It was smaller, had a camera flash, it felt like it actually was made out of gunmetal and looked sexier. When I found out that it was about $30 cheaper I was intrigued. I investigated and really could see no downside to the phone. I went on July 30th and returned the VX6000 and got the a670. I've had it for over a week now and I have to say that I'm in love. The phone has all of the pluses of the VX6000 and none of its drawbacks and it's cheaper and smaller. If I was forced to find flaws this is the best I can come up with: BATTERY: The battery life is great even though the first two bars seem to go rather quickly while the last bar stays on for the remainder of the batteries life, another reviewer noted this as well. The overall battery life is good it just seems like the battery bars aren't equal in their duration. Not a problem for me though DISPLAY (Not a flaw at all, read on): The only other pet peeve for me was the outside display. The backlight turns off in about 3 seconds after closing the clamshell. Every other phone I had owned allows you to just tap one of the outside buttons to turn the backlight on allowing you to see the time or if you’d missed any calls. I couldn't believe Samsung didn't think about that and put it in this phone. It was very disappointing for me as it's a feature I use almost every day. Luckily, I was reading reviews and a post on a forum solved my only problem with this phone. Samsung made it so you have to hold down the up/down toggle for about 2 seconds and THEN the backlight comes on. AWESOME!!! I was so happy because this was the only real problem I had with the a670. I guess they thought that if people kept the phone in their pocket and it was constantly being tapped the backlight would just waste the battery. Awesome thinking and it works great. All in all, this is the best phone I have owned to date. Definately, better than the VX6000. It is small, sexy, sturdy and functional as hell. Every feature you could want is included and it is reasonably priced. Also, you can upload wallpaper and ringers to it for free from the Verizon website which I previously couldn’t do with the T720 unless I had a data cable. Five stars to the a670!!!
Thanks for the details. You and I have certainly taken the same routing of phones at Verizon. I went from a T720 to the VX 6000 also. I just went to look at the 670, I did like everything about it. It also seems to be better built than the VX 6000. which is ofcourse infinitely better built than the T720. Couple more questions for you how does the 670 compare to the VX 6000 in Reception Call Clarity Ear piece volume. The reception from our house has always been bad and the 6000 is barely tolerable so I am a little concerned about this. I am eligible for an upgrade within the week, so for me the best cost savings would be to not upgrade and keep the LG .
I can't compare the a670 to the 6000, but I have the a670 & can tell you about what you're asking.. The reception is awesome...I don't get dropped calls..and when I do, my friends admit it's actually their phone! I had the Motorola v60i previously and thought I'd never find another phone with as good of reception...for an all-digital phone, this number has it! The call clarity is great!! Crystal clear!! Very loud!! You'll need to turn down the volume!! Ear piece volume will need to be turned down as well...no problems here... HTH...
No problem at all. Here are your answers: Reception: The T720 was only usable in my house in one corner of the first floor and everywhere on the second floor but the clarity was still lousy. The LG and the a670 both have awesome reception everywhere in the house. Call Clarity: Again I think they both tie here. I can hear everyone clearly on both phones. Ear Piece Volume: I think the a670 wins out here. I'm a little deaf I think and I always instinctively turn up the volume on any new phone because I just think it's not going to be loud enough. The a670 is the only phone I've ever owned where I've actually been in situations where I turn down the earpiece volume because it's too loud. I couldn't believe that!!! In my office I have it at a 3 and I can hear clearly, in my car at a 5 and it's plenty loud. (5 is the maximum by the way)
That helps a lot thanks. One thing I am not clear on is can you assign different ringers to different people in your Phone Book. Sorry if this has been answered before. Thanks for your help.
just a word of caution, it's not free unless you happened to get a special plan with verizon it cost you 25cents to send/received from your cellphone you can send/receive multiple image/video/audio in one message but it cost you 25 cents each time that's something you should be aware of and it is a basic verizon charge unless you get a package deal which isnt worth it.
Yes you can...you can assign different ringers and pictures to each contact. When the incoming call is recognized by the "Caller ID," the picture you attached previously to that contact will show up on the outer display. It takes 1-2 rings for this to come through (just like landline Caller ID). HTH...
Jodi, Thank you so very much. This is the first time I am doing so much research before buying a phone. The T 720 was Verizon's first color phone, and the LG 6000 was the first camera phone, so decisions were easy. BUT this time it is different, the LG has almost all the features I want/need and I am very happy with it, so I am being cautious. I have one more question and I promise this is my last . Can the WAP settings be modified to accept the port and IP addresses of the free WAP sites eg. the tagtag site? The "search" on this forum did not come up with anything. Thank you again for all your help.
