I saw that online today... WTF? The "V". *sigh* damn promo dept must be smoking something.:loony:

It's probably 100 cheaper online because the prices online include the "instant rebate" ... if you got it in the store you would pay 100 more but you would have a 100 mail in rebate.

I saw it with $200 or more in rebates at Best Buy last week--probably just for Black Friday.

I remember seeing Tom Cruise using that flip open long-ways to reveal a qwerty keypad design in the Mission Impossible movie years ago. That was cutting edge back then. It's still an expensive phone.

Pierce Brosnan used one of the first phone styles like that in his first Bond movie. It was a Nokia and he was able to drive his BMW with it :cool2: I think it looked something like this:

The car-driving phone wasn't in Goldeneye.

From what I can find, it was an Ericsson used to drive a BMW 750i in Tomorrow Never Dies.

Maybe that's what I was thinking of instead of mission impossible.

Here are the features of the phone:

    Ericsson Cell Phone:

Delivered to Bond in Tomorrow Never Dies, the phone's most effective feature is that you can use the touchpad to control the BMW by remote. It also has a fingerprint scanner, 20,000 volt shocker, key replicator, and controls for the car's defense system

It looks like Bond didn't have the vx9800-ish qwerty keyboard inside.

I'm guessing that they are looking for it to become a signature phone. They can't trademark a number, but they can trade mark "The V". It's the same reason the 'XBox 360' isn't called XBox II.
