The only Verizon phone that I know for sure as IR capability is the Samsung SPH-i700. I would be willing to be that the Kyocera 7135 and Samsung SPH-i600 have it aslo, as they are all PDA phones. Any one know?

i found this on the other thread that WE'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE USING SO THAT WE CAN KEEP ALL REFERNECES ON ONE THREAD.

Quote from Raiderdoug : This is a very poorly performing phone. Stay away if possible. if you already got one, try calling it from a phone with restricted caller ID. See if it rings. Chances are it will not. That is just one problem.

Nydru, have you had the same experienced?

This phone is nothing like the 9500. The 9500 is made by Toshiba, this one is made by Hyundai (SP?) There has always been a signigicant difference between the quality of these two manufacturers. I would stay away from teh 8900. There already have been a few glitches gound on it in the first couple days out. Do you really want to own one for 365 days?

true what you say about the quality of the HYUNDAI phones, the Toshiba imo is superior, but remember that glitches can usually be fixed with software upgrades and that can be expected with new phones especially this being one of the first camera phones for Hyundai, so i think we should wait and see how this 8900 performs after all the glitches on it have been fixed.
Again i agree with you about the quality of Toshiba, that's why i'm still waiting for the 9900.

Ok I got a couple of questions that might help out a lot of you guys here.
    1. How does it perform? Do you get a lot of dropped calls? Im on the run a lot and I dont want it to go in and out of service while im going ya know?

    2. How good is the camera? Is it equal to or better than the vx 6000? (This might be a good question for the people like yellow munky and ceno who like to send weird pics to each other)

    3. Are there any bugs that you see that might get in your way? I dont care about those little bugs that like you dont come across a lot, Im talking about ones that youll see a lot when using your phone.

    4. How is the wireless internet?

    5. I know the ringer is loud, but how loud? What can you compare it to that will give me a semi-good example to how it sounds?

    6. How is the color? Is it good or does it look weird?

    7. How is get it now? Is it going through good?

    8. Is the phone like flimsy and breakable or is it durable?

    9. How is the battery life?

Wow that was a lot of typing! Thankyou for clearing this up for me!

I'm a little new to this group so bare with me. I had a cdm 8100 which I really liked. Now I have the 9155GPX. One thing I hate about the 9155 and not the 8300 is that whenever I called someone from speed dial and they had multiple entries it would send me to those entries and allow me to choose which one I wanted to call. The 9155 doesn't allow me to do this. Does the 8900 allow this? Alos to Crazyboy and Wizzert thanks for asking those questions I too am wondering between the LG vx-6000 and the Audiovox cdm 8900. Holla at me to let me know what]s up.

Als, it does. On the external display it switches between Verizon wireless and your clock repeatedly. AT least when it showes Verizon wireless it still shoews you "Status" Info such as Signal, Batery, ring/vibrate/silent, Speaker phone. ETC.

MAJOR ANOYANCE!!!!!!:When the phone is searching for signal ( ala the subway) the only way i have found to see the time is to go into the alarm settings. This REALY sucks...ah well. I will live.

I have looked online for a data cable and this came up from Howards forums. At this point i will wait a while. I have already got most of the numbers back in the phone so it is no big deal.

The phones with IR were all mentioned in the thread i belive. I know the palm phone and the pocket pc phone do. I am not so sure about the smartphone though.

Suposedly ther is a flash accesory that you can get for the phone. I have seen it on the thread i linked above. Very intresting. I wil look into it when I get a chance.

Ok, outside of the v60p, Verizon doesn't have Nextel quality speaker phones. Its not a car speaker phone by any means. But it is still good enough for use on the street and in places with not too much background noise.

Alright, just looked up and did speed dial assignments. the 8900 when you asign speed dial numbers, if the person has multiple contact numbers you have to use the up down to scroll to the persons name and then left right to select which of there numbers will get asigned. For example, my dance partners have 2 speed dials each, Cell and work/dorm.

VERY good RF. Works in my basement better than any other phone ihave had including my v60.
Camera is realy good actualy except for the low light problem, but the vx6000 has that issue. Its not as customizable as the vx6000 but the camera performs beter. However, due to the larger, more color screen of the vx6000, pictures look better on it.
I mentioned some anoyances earlier. No critical bugs so far though. I pray ther won't be any.
    Don't know, haven't tried.
Loud enough to be heard at a decent ballroom social. In loud environements i have set it to Ring and vibrate (yes it rings and vibrates at the same time but only on the highest ringer volume..makes sence to me.) and that alowed me to troubleshoot my coaches computer problem tonight.
Very sharp very good looking color screen. Best of the 65K color screens. The only reason the VX6000 wins is because it has 262K colors and even then the color on the 8900 apears sharper.
So far so good. I got PIMP back on this phone and it sounds great.
Seeing as how i like it so much I WILL NOT be testing durability. MY 4400 felt more durable but the 8900 gets beter RF so thats a no brainer for me.
Excelent question. Not horrible. If i didn't use the camera at all it would be on par with anything else in its class that verizon has. I will get the extended batery for no other reason that I know myself and how much i will play with the camera.

hey babyboy, were glad your here. Its kicked back around here. For me, I think im going with the vx6000 cuz it works tremendously out here in phoenix. But on the other hand, Nyc gave me a pretty good reason to go check out that audiovox. Hopefully when more comes up, Ill know exactly what to get.

Hi guys.....Just wanted to intro myself..this is my first time on the phone forum...I never even knew it existed.........

You certainly are devoted to the phones,I'll tell you that!!....My main interest's are Radio Control cars and trucks.....nitro and electric....and I'd be happy to help you with that if any of you are into RC...You can see those forums at RCTECH.net...

After 2 years of waiting for a decent phone(to replace my Kyocera 2035) I picked up the 8900...so far I like it...three things I noticed....There is no pacman on my version(verizon).......the speaker phone, when activated on incoming calls, always defers to the lower volume setting untill I hit the volume control on the side....on outgoing it goes right to my preferred volume...

AND,I cannot the greeting to change.....I went to settings, did it just like it says, and it won't change from verizon...in fact, the color of the lettering changes,as well as the background....the name wont change though..

is this a software glitch in mine?...

also, what does the screensaver timer(time setting) control?.....mine makes no difference that I can see..

One more thing I just found out...under the answering a call options screen,I cant get mine to switch between "any key" or "send key".....

Its begining to sound like I've found a few problems with the first run phones(my luck,of course)..or I have a problem with mine(really my luck)..

    Thanks for your help..

I am having the exact same problem when I try to change the greeting message. But I was able to change it once. In the store I changed it and it worked fine, but since then I've played around with the phone and now it says "Verizon Wireless" even though that isn't the text shown in the menu screen to change the banner message.

Is anyone else having this problem? What can we do about it?

    OK.....So I called verizon tech...ready for this?...

The greeting(or banner) can't be changed..they program this out....this way they can put ROAMING where the verizon banner would be when you go out of area...(so I'm not quite sure how you did it in the store)..

Also,as far as answering teh phone with the "GREEN" send key vs the "ANY KEY" selection..

Apparently, that might be a software glitch...it will only work with your choice of "FLIP" turning it on..OR the green key....(NICE TOUCH!!)..

as far as the screen saver..I figured that out.......though it seesm absolutely worthless to have..

How's everyone else making out with the above problems...??

Ok. The Roaming thing is BS but it is not that bad an Issue. I would have prefered it at least be able to switch to the Time and date with the press of a side key but that is not the case. If you open the phone then it displays the clock p[ermenantly on the external display...but that is useless.

I can definately verify that the ways to answer calls on this phone are to open the phone or to hit the "GREEN" send key. The option to have it answer with the pressing of any of the keys on the key pad is there but is apperantly broken.

Hmm..the phone does go into power savee mode but i don't know the exact timing of it.

GRIPE: When in "Network Search" mode ala being on the train in NYC underground, it does not display the clock on the outside or on the inside. The only way to get to the clock while in Network search that i have found is in the "Alarm" setting. I am guessing that I can also see that in gthe calender mode.

I STILL SAY IT IS THE BEST VZW PHONE OUT RIGHT NOW AND TOP 3 ALL TIME.

Any phone that has beter RF than the v60, has good sound quality, has very good speaker volume, has an intuitive and very easy to use menuing system and phonebook, and has some good extra's.......has to be in the top 3 all time.

Ok I tried out the phone! I am happy to say..... It was displeasing. Not only did it dissapoint me, it was horrible to others. verizon is now about to take back all the models from my particular store and get new ones. And they know its not just a bad batch becuase they got a new batch in early this morning and even they were bad. In this I will tell you why.

    1. the outer screen was horrible color. It was a bluish whitish color. I could hardly see it. When you dont recharge it, it gets to be more white until you cant see it.

    2. The speaker phone was ok. not loud enough though. Wasnt acceptible.

    3. The call clarity was pretty good accept I dropped a bunch of calls. I called about 10 people ( at the consent of the store owner becuase he wanted to see how it was doing also.) I dropped 3 of the calls almost immediatly and about 4 of the calls after a few minutes.

    4. The camera is pretty good but horrible compared to the vx 6000.

    5. One thing that was pretty good was the ringtones. they were loud and were pretty good selection wise.

My final report. Dont buy the audiovox 8900. Youll be disapointed. B uy the vx 6000
