I want to find out what numbers Verizon can assign to new costumers in the 617 and 857 area codes (Boston). i'm asking because i want to change my number to a local area code, but I would like to request an available number instead of randomly being assigned one.

Any ideas on how to find out?

    Thanks.

Call customer service and tell them you want to change your number. They will read you a list of what numbers are available and you can pick one. That's what I did about 2 years ago.

Take a look at Telcodata Website where you can search by area-code, area-code and prefix, and many other ways.

If you tell Verizon that you would like a 617 number in Boston, they should be able to give you one, if one is available.

Verizon is notorious for using overlay area codes. Here in NJ they added a '551' area code a few years ago and the only people I know using it are VZW customers.
