i was in walmart today and seen they'd taken all the 6102i off the self,
as i was looking around i seen it as a go phone for a little over $80.00
no need to say that i felt like an idiot paying $178.00 for it 3 weeks ago.
but of course they are not going to tell you that at the point of sale.
as i understand it i could have bought the go phone, put my sim card in it
    and saved about $100.00

You do have 30 days with Cingular to return your phone. You are correct that all you would have to do is to put your postpaid SIM card into the prepaid phone and it would work.

I noticed this today when I went to look at it. One thing that I was surprised to see, was the new at&t branding on the To Go packaging as well as on the phone itself.... Still a good price for anyone in need of a replacement handset.

IMO this is a small price to pay, when you look at all the features that are on it. This phone has a one year Cingular/Nokia manufacture warranty.
The 90 days is Walmarts return policy.

It depends on how you purchased this phone..... If it was purchased as an upgrade to an already existing account with Cingular, Walmart is correct, that you are held to Cingular's same 30 day return period.
How ever, if you purchased the phone in one of Walmarts Go Phone packages then you "should" be held to Walmarts 90 day return policy. I have purchased Go Phones from Walmart before and returned them even after using them for 60 days without any problems. But this may also depend on the area that you live in.
That said, a return policy is not the same as the handsets Warranty period. You are still covered up to a period of one year for any manufacturing defects.

if i was going to stay with cingular i would just put my acct sims in the phone
but since all the problems here with cingular, i'm going to a differant company
not sure if it will be alltell,or nextel.

I would go with Alltel over Nextel, if Alltel has good coverage in your area. You can check Alltels plans as well as their coverage out on their website in this link. Alltel.com - Official Site.
Good luck with your decision army. I know from experience that choosing a good wireless carrier isn't an easy thing to do.
