just got this phone. its pretty cool yeah. direct connection to laptop and the laptop surfs really well and fast. but the browser on the phone stinks. so far i could not find 1 usable site....and most importantly: http://mail.yahoo.com doesnt work. get a bunch of source code/javascript lookin stuff. can someone tell me if this works for them? also www.ebay.com. using this small interface, can anyone tell me if they actually succeeded in finding their listing or post a new 4 sale item? in general...NO sites work well. i mean, google and yahoo search work. but once u actually try to go to a site...i believe if theres even so much as a hint of .js, it doesnt work... anyone know if theres an alternative browser? i am on revision 1.034sp
www.sprintusers.com/wap from the phones browser works very snappy for me and has a ton of links that work well on everyones phones that use it and post feedback. also www.sprintpcsrocks.com/dir from your pc lists sites that work on vision phones.
Your best bet is to visit web sites specifically designed for web users. E.g., the CNNtoGo instead of the regular CNN site; wap.hollywood.com instead of www.hollywood.com; etc. The Reqwireless browser just came out recently, and it offers a proxy service and browser software as an alternative. It attempts to "interpret" and render regualr web pages. Search this forum for comments on its success.
personally i have found that wap sites designed for mobile phones work very snappy on my 5300. it has a history memory and also options to erase cookies. that on top of the huge and crisp colourful screen so far make it the best phone websurfing experience i have had. during less peak times also speed can be greatly improved over busier voice times.
thanks all. www.sprintusers.com/wap is a great link. much better. so it seems that WAP enabled sites are better...faster. you hear the contrary over at the verizon forum.....strange. i downloaded the latest and greatest requwirelessbrowser, but its even worse that the std browser. the req returns a "0" for web pages. plus its slow as u ahve to wait for the java app to load 1st every time before using... does anything really think this is better? also, i am trying to understand something else....the sprints "vision 3g" network.... does verizon have anything similar? anotherwords, theres this concept of some phones being "vision enabled". what does that truly mean...esp in reference to a verizon plan?
