My 2-yr contract is up. I'm planning on using my new every 2 deal to get $100 off of a new phone (probably LG VX8300). Right now I have 300 minutes for $34.95/mo. Verizon has offered me 100 extra min (800-735-7744) if I sign a 3-yr contract. Should I do it if I plan on being with Verizon that long anyways (best reception in the Virginia Beach area)? Please help me decide what to do.

    Thanks!

3 years is a long time for things to change; just look at all the changes that have happened in the past 3 years: WLNP, Cingular bought ATTW, Cingular is now #1 (in terms of customers), SBC buys AT&T Corp. and renames itself AT&T, they're soon to buy BellSouth and resurrect the ATTWS name/brand, Sprint and Nextel merged, Verizon bought MCI, etc. Anyway, if I'm going to be locked into a 3-year contract, they better offer me a lot more than 100 extra minutes.

In less than 3 years VOIP plans will be avalible and they will probably be much cheaper than the current curcuit switched plans we use today.

For the 1st year it sounds good, but the next 2 years after that it sucks.

Why would you consider this if they have a 2-year contract for 450 minutes for $39.99? For an extra $5/month (rather than a year extra of contract), you can get an extra 150 minutes...

    Because I'm cheap... :)

No seriously, good point. I think I'll just go with the 2 year and stick with my 300 minutes.

    Thanks All!

After 12 years with Verizon (including the former AirTouch and PacTel Cellular), I personally, would have no issue with signing a 3 year contract. I just recently re-upped for another two years anyway, so adding an extra year would lock me in until year 15. I could live with that.:D

The extra 100 minutes would be a bonus.

Guess the general consensus is that a 3yr contract is not a good idea.

I wouldn't do a 3 year with anyone...and unless you know you need those 100 minutes it shouldn't even be a consideration.
