    Re: 3 Razr Questions

This is not going to be much help, but,

1.) When the flip is open, after a certain time the screensaver is supposed to come on. I have my screensaver set and the screen always turns black. I never been able to get the screensaver to work, nor I have I found out very much info on this at other sites.

2.) The best way to record a ringtone is by using MPT. It has everything you need to do this with. The only other way and it is not recording it, is to download a pre-recorded off the internet. You can alos take a .MP3 and convert it to a ringtone.

3.) I am looking into an extended battery. I will not be able to get it until the end of the month. So I have not had a chance to try one out. Look at the following site for information.

    Re: 3 Razr Questions

My Girlfriend and I both just got a v3m and I've noticed that her battery pretty much sucks on keeping a charge, she's going to get a different battery inside the 15 initial days and see if we can get her a better battery life. I would suggest you try it before incurring the expense of an extended battery. Of course, if you're using the phone as an MP3 player then that is another story altogether.

    Re: 3 Razr Questions

    1) The screen saver ONLY works with the phone flipped open WHEN the phone is on the charger. Seems silly, but imagine if the screen saver came on whenever the folder was left open, it would suck even more power from the already weak battery ;)

    2) MPT is the best way to create and upload ringtones. You can make any song into an mp3, section it down to the 25 or 30 seconds u need (any longer is a waste of space as it goes to voicemail after any longer)

    3) My battery hasnt been too bad. Then again, I have been constantly hacking it ;) and therefore have had it on the charger like 24/7. But seriously, when it has been off the charger, i seem to get 2 good days out of one charge. I do live in an area that has bad reception, and it stil holds a good charge even though it spends a lot of energy searching for signal

    hope this has helped some

    Re: 3 Razr Questions

Can you be a bit more specific with your V3 model? Are you using a GSM (Cingular or T-Mobile)or CDMA (Verizon, Sprint, Alltel) model?

Battery problems are no surprise of the CDMA models (V3C, V3M). CDMA models as a whole runs through a battery quicker than an equivalent GSM phone. Playing games, using the phone as an mp3 / video player, and heavy camera use will also really eat into your battery life.

    Thanks, Jay

Hw can you do it in BitPim??? It says phone locked by administrator or something along those lines. Are u using the CDMA V3M?

Also, did you read what I typed? The screen saver only works while ur phone is on the charger and u have a valid gif image linked to the screen saver. Also, make sure ur time is set to something short like 1 minute while testing it, ha.

    Re: 3 Razr Questions

I guess I don't know how to make the screen saver work. I have a screen saver that I got from this site (http://www.motox.info/showthread.php?t=318&page=106) on my phone, and set as my screen saver, but the screen saver doesn't every come on.

I saved it as a .gif file, I sent it to my phone using BitPim, and I set it as the screen saver on my phone. I set my screen saver to come on after one minute, then plugged my charger into my phone. I waited longer than a minute, but nothing happened.

    What's the deal?

    Re: 3 Razr Questions

Make sure battey save is set to more than the screensaver time is. Make sure your screen saver is set to 1 minute. Plug in your phone, leave the flip open, and u should see it come on.

The battery save options were just "On" and "Off", so I turned it off, and it still didn't work.

Just want to clarify on the screensaver thing. When reading the manual and in experience, the screensaver only comes on when your phone is plugged into your computer and charging via the usb port and the flip is open. It comes on for a little bit but eventually stops. So, only when charging via the usb port does the screensaver come on. Kinda silly in my opinion, to have this function that only works in this one circumstance that is somewhat rare... unless you always charge your phona via usb and leave the flip open.

CDMA models may be different, but the screensaver on my GSM V3 will activate if the phone is not plugged in, but the flip is simply left open.

Yea, the cdma must be plugged in for the ss to activate. Th battery sucks as it is with the VZW UI, imagine how bad it would be if the ss would come on without it plugged in? haha

I usually leave my screensaver off to save the battery. It also helps to change your backlight setting from the default. My backlight is 20 seconds. I think the default is 40 or 60 seconds.

I also have a Razr V3m Verizon phone. The screen saver issue has bugged me since getting the phone. It simply does not work with Verizon phones. I contacted Verizon and they couldn't get it to work on their phone either, nor did they have an answer other than maybe I need a firmware update (their phone had the same firmware mine has).

I contaced Motorola and they said since the phone must be connected via USB to a computer with the phone tools software, Verizon phones don't use the phone tools software so the screen saver won't work.

Would have been nice if the Razr user guide stated this little bit of information! I guess it's not that big of a deal but I hate it when products don't perform as advertised. If the function doesn't work with Verizon phones then Verizon should have removed the option in the phone and the reference in the manual. You can't tell me they didn't know it didn't work.

The Verizon Razr V3m DOES work with Motorola Phone Tools.

    http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/razr-phones/56369-motorola-phone-tools-doesnt-work-razr.html

Also, the phone ONLY needs to be charging on a USB cable..doesnt matter if its to a wall charger, or the comp. They do this for a reason...if they didnt, your battery would DIE so fast...I find it amazing people get so frustrated by this haha. Do people REALLY leave the phone OPEN when not using it? And if so, you are gonna sit there and watch it?

Well that is what I thought but it isn't what Motorola or Verizon is saying. One issue why it would need to connected to the wall charger is because on Verizon phones the backlight is limited to 20 seconds and if the charger was not connected then the phone would go dark way before a screen saver could come on, to save power. On the charger the backlight just dims, but off the charger the screen shuts off.

Except it doesn't save power, the screen turning off saves power, a screen saver does nothing for power (except burn it, as Cincy said, if it were allowed to play).

I know. I wasn't saying that the screen saver saves power, only why the screen shuts off.

I finally got my screen saver to work but it will only work if the phone is USB'd to my computer. How strange. And not all my pictures work as screen saver images. Strange again.

Yep, the screen saver is pretty useless, only comes on when phone is connected to computer with USB and left open for like a minute or something. As for which pictures work, do you have imagines you KNOW are animated that don't animate? Also keep in mind the screen saver stops animating after some time and just freezes on one frame, so if you're not paying attention and you look over later and it's just one frame, that doesn't mean it hadn't animated previous to you looking at it.

What I mean is that some of the pictures I pick as a screen saver don't even come up and others do. Not sure I understand why the screen saver function only works via USB to the computer and not with the USB wall charger.
