Cingular Wireless Enhances Eastern Kentucky Network and Coverage With Two New Cell Sites More Than 25 New Sites to be Added Across Kentucky and Southern Indiana by Year-End LEXINGTON, Ky., Aug. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The nation's largest wireless carrier is growing its network and meeting the need for enhanced coverage in Eastern Kentucky. Cingular Wireless today announced that it recently added two new cell sites in the area, ensuring Kentucky customers stay connected. These new sites are some of the more than 25 new cell sites Cingular has planned for Kentucky and Southern Indiana before the end of the year. (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20040930/CINGLOGO ) These new sites serve the following areas: * New service in Menifee County along Hwy. 460 near Frenchburg * Enhanced service in southwest Lincoln County, along Hwy. 127 from Danville to Liberty and Hwy. 78 from Stanford to Hustonville. "These two new additions to our network are part of Cingular's plan to provide the very best possible wireless network to our customers across Kentucky," said Jim Thorpe, vice president and regional manager for Cingular's Tennessee and Kentucky market. "Whether you are a businessperson calling Tokyo or a farmer checking the weather forecast on your PDA, we want our customers to know they can count on Cingular."
I know it's been a while since this post but I just found this most informative website thanks to Popular Science magazine. I do hope Cingular expands their coverage area as described and helps my situation. My son goes to Hanover College in Hanover, IN which sits on the Ohio River directly across from Kentucky and his current Cingular coverage is atrocious on the campus proper. He has no bars inside his dorm, and maybe 1-2 at best outdoors despite what the coverage map depicts. To make a reliable call of any length he has to go into town and sit in his car until finished. I'm sure those of you with teenagers can understand his disdain for the whole situation. Sure would/will make life easier for his Mother and I if Cingular upgrades around his area, otherwise it's going to be a loooong 4 years. Thanks for "listening."
