It doesn't matter which phone I have [Razr, Motorola v400, Samsung] but I repeatedly have dropped calls with Cingular. As many as 5 disconnects during one conversation. Customer Service had me take out SIM card, they did something on their end, but calls still got dropped. Customer Service then said I need to purchase better quality phone [better than Razr?]. Customer Service then said I need to send phone into manufacturer for checkup. I don't believe anything Customer Service has told me. I am nearing my 2 year contract and will go with another provider.
If your current provider is not doing the job for you (and it looks like it isn't), check with friends/colleagues on other providers who have good coverage in your area and vote with your pocketbook when your contract ends. Good luck!
It may be worth while to have someone else with Cingular try their SIM in your phone (and your SIM in their phone) to see the results. It may be location, equipment or both. If it's location, switching to another provider is the best bet. If it's something else, you can ride the CS ladder till you get someone who knows what they're doing and can solve your problem.
This is a very good suggestion, also the V400 isn't a very good phone & had software issues, as well as some people with the Razr have had issues with it, I don't know which Samsung you have or tried, but older ones were poor with GSM vs new ones. Are you an old AT&T Wireless customer or a Cingular Orange customer? If your Blue, migrating over to Orange may help in your area, plus you may be roaming on Suncom's network in area's, which can be a problem in itself.
i remember back when my mom had a Nokia 6010 we went down to Virginia and there was almost no T-Mobile network.......but the Suncom was full service down there but calls got dropped right and left as if it were raining cats and dogs
Wirelessly posted (Q's Mobile Device: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/3.0.6306/1558; en; U; ssr)) I thought that Cingy didn't roam on Suncom anymore. Not too long ago, Cingy did a network swap with them... Orange got most of Virginia, the blue in the carolinas and PR went to Suncom. Maybe Cingy hasn't ironed all of the kinks out of the network yet.
well i just had 4 dropped calls last night with Sprint and it finally got to the point where when i tried to make an outgoing call it said that the network was busy........which really me off
I haven't had this or the dropped call issue in I don't know how long, that's one of the reason's I like Cingular & would have a really hard time leaving them.
i can deal with dropped call but and with all of the other things that i get with Sprint through the SERO plan i can definitely put up with them........but the circuits get overloaded really quickly........like everyone has been saying....you can only drop a call if the call was already made......i sure took the tower a while to figure out that it couldnt handle any more calls.......Cingulars circuits get overloaded just as fast as everyone elses and sometimes quicker because of so many cystomers.........i would rather deal with blocked cals than calls getting dropped.......
The V400 and V3 are not bad phones, but they are not the best Motorola has to offer as far as reception goes. I would recommend a Moto V600 or V551. Samsung reception can vary widely depending on the model you used as well. I have Cingular and I cannot remember the last time I had a dropped call, even in rural areas. I am quite particular about the phones I use though. Most often I use one of my 2 V551's or my Moto A845. Those models have excellent reception. -Jay
While I agree that the V3 may not be the BEST in reception that Cingular has to offer, maybe the dropped calls are not an issue of low service, but rather network/channel problems at the network end, not the user end. It could be a network overload, bad handoffs, or other factors than bad reception. I had dropped calls with Cingular all the time when I last had them, not because of low signal areas, necessarily, but because of weird network configuration.
23 in one month... lol... stop crying! 1 out of every 6 phone calls drop in my area on my phone. - been through 4 phones (and most have much higher call drop rate - this is the lowest i have found). I have also been through three SIM cards... Believe me here in Central Florida it is their network... not me, nor my phone. I have more dropped calls than you. And I do not complain. I just have 'Auto Redial' turned ON on my phone; therefore when I drop a call, it just redials it - its such a nice feature to have! I can put up with all the dropped calls for the price I pay, the great extensive coverage, rollover, and lots of minutes I get. I also like my Nokia 3595 - best phone i have ever had (I only drop 16% of my calls each week!) Yes I drop 1 out of every 6 phone calls every day, week, and month. It never stops. It has been going on for 365 days a year, for two years.
Did I ever say that in my above post. I never once indicated that other carriers would not drop my call. As there is not other carrier in my area! - so there are not calls to begin with. Cingular is the only one in my area. So... I am just saying to the OP to stop complaining because some people have it worse off than you do.
Wow, that's a lot to me.... As far as the original poster. I heard the carolinas in general is one of Cingular's worst area for what its worth.....
Over the past couple of years Cingular has really improved the coverage in the Carolinas. I can't remember when I could not get a signal. I very seldom get dropped. I travel to Asheville and Charlotte NC multiple times a month and always have good service. I get dropped more often on my company supplied Alltell phone.
Alltel works a lot on the Verizon/US Cellular network in NC and it is known for dropping calls. I had Verizon for years and the dropped calls got so bad I changed carriers - to Cingular. I had called Verizon about one area in particular that was always bad and was told they knew they had problems with a tower but had no plans to do anything about it. So, I left them and have never had better service and call clarity.
That was true maybe 5 years ago, but Cingular has invested millions in building new towers everywhere. They have one of the best networks in the state now from the coast to the mountains. Verizon or Alltel are only built out in certain parts of the state.
I agree. On my last road trip through the carolinas I was surfing the internet on a laptop computer teathered to my cell phone. I did not drop anywhere in the carolinas. I think the only place I dropped for a minute was in Georgia. -Jay
well in my area its all network traffic.........people in my area are big on Boost and Nextel.......but there is everything here and Sprint is becoming pretty popular........i know at least 5 of my friends used to have Nextel/Boost and now they have migrated but the nights although i have unlimited minutes the towers get really jammed........Cingular is really good in my area and i havent heard a single complaint from my friend about dropped calls
When I had the Blue GoPhone (R.I.P.), I only had a handful of dropped calls in the 11 months I had them. Most of the disconnects were network based--the system dropped my call whenever I was on the phone for 180 minutes! Not sure why though?
I used to drop calls a lot when I drove past the airport on the way home, but it was with my old Nokia 6820. Once I switched to 6131 -- no more dropped calls in that location. I still get an occasional random dropped call, but a lot of times it's the fault of the other party.
