  1. HELP...im a newbie to aircards...the sales person told me I can use the aircard "anywhere and everywhere". I was in Canada recently and I used my aircard...I assumed there would be some usage fee add on's...but i almost had a heart atatck when i rec'd my recent bill...i used 1,286,002KB for a charge of $1,686.05...I called AT&T and they said they would make a deal...LOL...i bent over and grabbed my ankles.

We (AT&T) will knock off $800 but u have to subscribe to theInternatonal card plan...$109/mo vs $59/mo....nice...gee..thanks guys.

I feel totally ambushed...no explanation in plain english of the cost per KB...all geek speak.

Are there any legal options available to me to fight them.

    John

Yes, your contract. I will explain what you are legally responsible to pay for and how, if, you can sue them though it probably has you agreeing to a private arbitrator.

I'd say you're lucky that they met you half way on the charges. Ignorance is no excuse, sure I understand the rep at the time told you that you could use it 'everywhere and anywhere' but you have to figure at some point that it would've clicked... You get billed for roaming on calls and text messaging if you leave the country, should have assumed the same would've been so for data on an air card.

Also note, they said you can use it, which you did. They didn't say how much additional it would cost. You admit that it should have been an additional charge, but you did not investigate the international rates before you left on your trip.

Exactly. I had a guy one that had a $26,000 bill for using his data card while in Jamaica on vacation.

  6. How do I locate a private arbitrator?

Go to the wireless.att.com and search for arbitration. It'll have a # in there

for the rest.i would be vary worried about paying an atty.more

Amen, people need to start taking more responsibility for their actions. I mean, c'mon... I think 99.99% of people realize that if you cross an international border and try to use your phone that there is some type of extra charge. It's pure ignorance not to investigate or call CS to inquire before traveling. If you are really trying to fight AT&T with these charges you have got to be insane. Surely you will spend more money trying to fight it then if do what's right by paying the bill and accepting responsibility.

That's amazing that they were willing to knock off $800 ...a good example of exceptional customer service from AT&T.

if that's the case, stop thinking, and look at the big picture
around you, there's all kinds of differant problems in this
world you will not be overlooked forever, example, i joined the army
    at 17,served my 20 yrs,retired at 37, had a heart attack ay 39,
    3 more sinse,life has never been the same,even though i don't
like the way you talk about how you feel about dealing
with customer on the phone when they have problems,
i get the since that you are a vary smart guy, when it comes
to doing what you do,what i don't understand is why you let
a few smart mouth people you talk to bring you down to there
level,do you know how that person would feel about himself
after he hung up from talking to you and you made him feel
like he was the most important customer att had,i promiss you
this he would feel like a jurk a lot longer then what ever you feel
after you hangup.you have a great opertunity to help a lot of
people on this board without making fun of them or there problems,
yes even if they bring them on themselfs. knowledge is gold,no matter
how little or how much you have, you surely didn't join here to hurt
people, people are angree right now because of all the problems
with att,use your knowledge to help them, and if you can't help
them, then direct them to the next step you think they should take.
that will make them feel good, you feel good, and it can't hurt the att image.

I agree. I thought the $800 was very good. My daughter will taking a trip to Canada in a few weeks and my son is going to Costa Rica. Both asked if their telephones would work. I told them that THEY would but they would have to pay the high roaming fees. They stated that they could do without their phones for a week. My point is THEY did ask.

at&t comes through again with i think the best customer service..they are not even my cell provider and i think they are the best...but the only way i can see you getting out of this one with least amount of damage to the wallet would be to agree to let them knock off the $800, sighn up for the card plan they are willing to work with you on. then cancel and just pay the termination fee. technically you will staill be paying close to $500, but you will be out of any more calling plans or overages you cant afford. :headscrat

The only reason I'm often a _______ to people on here is because I have to be nice to them when they call customer service. I do present what I know in a 'matter of fact' way because I get tired of having to sugar-coat everything while at work.

  18. pls...dont be so kind to AT&T...they will knock off $800 if I agree to a much higher monthly rate....lol...in the end its more than the current amt i owe them...like they are so concerned in helping me out...these folks are the robber barons of the wireless age...and it was offered in a sarcastic, "take it or leave it" attitude...like one of Tony Soprano boys making you an offer you can't refuse. ___k em.

  19. Thats a perfect statement...esp. from a customer rep...sarcastic, snobbish, ___k all of you attitude...nice going...way to represent AT&T to the world like the mfers they really are...u should get the "Best Service Rep Award"...what an _______

i can understand that, but i think if you will look in a mirror
you will see a person that's feels good about himself by doing
something good for someone that you didn't think deserved it,
and YOU will be a better person for it.

Hahhaa, this coming from the guy that is complaining about having to pay $800 rather than $1600.. Do I have the at&t logo anywhere on my post? Hell no. I don't represent ____. I'm just telling you how ____ is from an insider's perspective. If you want people to be nice, go to Wireless Forums from AT&T

Unless you're certain about it, don't assume and then regret the charges. If you're willing to assume, you should be willing to accept the responsibilities and penalties for such assumptions.

And why should ATT eat the bill because of your assumption? It was your mistake not theirs that caused the error so I fail to see their responsibility in assisting you "make a deal."

I remember when cell phones first became popular. A friend of mine purchased a regional plan. He had some job assignments that caused him to travel after he had the phone for a couple of months. He ran up a huge bill. I believe it was Centel Wireless at the time. He complained about how they screwed him constantly. He was the one that chose the regional plan. It was his fault. PERIOD

    Same scenario.

Back in the early days of CIngular I had a similar issue. I was on a regional TDMA plan on my wonderful Motorola V60t. I was called out of town suddenly and not only was hit with roaming fees, but I also went way over my alotted minutes. I called CS to just switch my rate plan effective the new billing cycle (They didn't prorate plan changes then, just put it in the system and it went into effect on your next cycle.) To my suprise the CSR actually suggested that they could make the change retroactive to the beginning of the current billing cycle and I could avoid all of the roaming and overage fees. I was extremely pleased as I did not expect them to do this, nor did I even ask. My intent was to get the situation under control so I only had one outrageous bill to deal with, and not two. I have been extremely pleased with the service I have received, and continue to receive from ATT/Cingular.

Your not the first person I heard about this.

Verizonwireless has a global plan you might wish to consider. It has been far proven that the network is superior.

See the blackberry 8830 quad band world phone. Screw Cingular/AT&T Edge, get EVDO rev a. & 3G out of the USA.

They also won carrier of the year by Wireless week 2 years in a row.

I'm going to close this thread before it goes any farther.

The OP has his answers and got to release a little anger. TehJoE234797 got to release a little bit of pent up Customer Service tension.
