Wirelessly posted (Treo 750: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.6) UP.Link/6.3.1.17.06.3.1.17.0) I am going to agree with the Big Meanie, just this time only.
Thanks to Matt Stairs the Phillies are now up 3 games to 1 over LA! And had I spent my entire life being a fan of professional teams in cities other than San Diego or Philadelphia, I would say this series is over! But San Diego and Philly both have lovely histories of failure, so I will remain worried probably for an hour AFTER the Phillies clinch (if they indeed manage to do so).
Phillies in the World Series for the first time since I was a junior in high school! Maybe they can break the 25 year curse of William Penn on Philly pro sports teams! lol Now here's to hoping the Red Sox win 2 in a row to force a Game 7 in the ALCS!
I just read that Cole Hamels, 3-0 this post-season, is the second winningest pitcher in Phillies playoff history. So pitiful that one good post-season makes for the second best record ever
Now that the Phillies are in, I'm rooting for them to win the World Series. After 28 years since their last world championship, I don't mind seeing them do it again. I don't want Tampa Bay or Boston to win the World Series. Also, I still don't think Tampa Bay's for real. They've caught lightning in a bottle this year, just like the Dodgers did in 1988. Teams do this. If Tampa is good and wins solidly for several years, then I'll believe it. So...(gulp) Go Phillies!..:O
Not really playoff related, but it looks like the Padres intend to attempt to be even worse next season! ESPN - Sources: Pads gauging interest in Peavy, whose contract runs through 2013 - MLB
As long as anyone besides Boston, the Cubs, or the Yankees win the world series each year I won't mind. I never want to see the Cubs World Series drought of 100+ years come to an end.
I am so nervously excited. Looks like the Phillies will go up 3-1 with their ace to pitch tomorrow. I was born in Philly in 1977. I root for a bunch of losers. NFL: Chargers = zero championships ever NHL: Flyers = no title since 1975 (none during my life) MLB: Padres = zero championships ever Phillies = 1 championship in 125 seasons. 1980...before I was aware of much. I don't care about the NBA. I have never experienced what it is like when your team wins it all. eeek
I'm happy for you Matt. I've been rooting for the Phillies in the World Series, so I hope they pull it off tonight. Though I'm still not thrilled with the Phillies beating my Dodgers, at least I can say I've seen many of my favorite L.A. area teams win titles in my lifetime (18 championships so far). So more power to Philadelphia this time around. I remember when the Phillies beat the Royals in 1980. That was a really exciting series. Also, forget about San Diego teams. That city is a sports joke (and always will be...:evillaugh). San Diego hasn't figured out yet that you "CAN'T BEAT L.A."
To piggy-back off the last post, it got me thinking as to how many championships my teams have won in my lifetime: Baseball (3) 1981 Los Angeles Dodgers 1988 Los Angeles Dodgers 2002 Anaheim Angels Basketball (11) 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers 1979-80 Los Angeles Lakers 1981-82 Los Angeles Lakers 1984-85 Los Angeles Lakers 1986-87 Los Angeles Lakers 1987-88 Los Angeles Lakers 1999-00 Los Angeles Lakers 2000-01 Los Angeles Lakers 2001-02 Los Angeles Lakers 2000-01 Los Angeles Sparks 2001-02 Los Angeles Sparks Hockey (1) 2006-07 Anaheim Ducks Soccer (2) 2002 Los Angeles Galaxy 2005 Los Angeles Galaxy Football (1) 1983 Los Angeles Raiders (Super Bowl XVIII in 1984) (Yes, I do count the Raiders SB win, as they did it representing Los Angeles NOT Oakland). I guess it pays to be a Los Angeles sports fan. No wonder other cities chant "Beat L.A....
I like that idea Mike!! Yankees----26 World Championships New York Giants---3 Super Bowls Miami Heat---1 World Championship
Thanks! I DVR'd the resumption of the game last night and I have watched the 9th inning 4 times now. I am a dork.
