I bought a 120c on Ebay for $1 so that I could use some parts from it. The seller said "Up for aution is a blue motorola 120 phone. This phone is for display only. It does POWER on and can be used to show how the phone works but they are engineering samples and can not be programmed as far as I know."

Well I got it in the mail today and decided to try anyway. It works like a champ, but I can not use *228. Everytime I call 228 it just says that the activation has failed. I can still send and receive calls...

    The software version is: P2K-C_P_2000.08.72_

    Thanks for any insight,
    The king of crap

    Dear king of crap,

That software version is not a VZW software package, so it will not be provisioned for *228, sounds like a moto factory or pre-production version. Hope this helps.

    Your friend,

    Thanks,
I suppose my next question is: will I run into problems? Funny thing is, there is a Verizon splash screen during the start up.

I don't forsee many problems.. does your voicemail notification/text messaging work? If that does, and you can originate/terminate calls, then you should be alright. Maybe it was like a pre-production version for VZW or something, and that's why it has the splash screen, but the SW version you gave is not one that has ever been mass distributed by VZW.

    Thanks again Cenobyte,
ooOOooooo I just looked at the sticker that usually has the model and serial and it simply says: Motorola Inc. Engineering Sample.

Oh no! poor optimus prime. His house burned down, and a family member died. [IMG]

How come I woke up this morning to like 27 new ring tone threads? [IMG]

Not that it really matters, but do you think that a Verizon store could update the firmware for me?

I was messing around with TrueSync and when I checked the phone, the serial number is N/A. I feel like I have a base that belongs to just me [IMG]

Ringtone People Suck... They need a filter for people with less than 10 posts... If ringtone, 50cent or any other key word is detected, their IP is forever blocked. [IMG]

LMAO, good idea about the filter.

I would call the store first and ask the tech if they could flash it. I would assume so, but since it is an engineering model, you never know. There may be something that prevents it from being updated.

Craptain: I hate to bust your bubble, but, my friend's v120c (black) has that same software in it. I noticed when I got my v120c, and had I believe 2100.XX.XX whatever it was, but, she, has the same as you. I'm not sure when her phone was manufactured, but, she has found that she can do *228 successfully, but, she can't swap calls. She can get a call on the other line using call waiting, but, she can't switch between the two. When she hits send to answer the other call, the original call gets disconnected. I'm going to take her to have her phone's firmware updated, but, just wanted to provide my 5 cents [IMG]H.T.H, and sorry to bust your bubble if I did.
