no not really but the phones can't do things like ringtone transfers or anything like that so they are locked down a bit
the only problem with the UI is that a lot of the icons look very similar....it can get sonfusing sometimes....but even on the old one at first...

generally all the standard phones have altered UIs.............Windows Mobile and Blackberry don't but the regular phones do.....Sprint's menu...

there is definitely a market in GPS systems with a mobile data connection for things like live traffic data, severe weather alerts or even states...
