Rockhound - Nice picture and I think that is the most complete set of data for any cell site in the gallery....excellent! Is there anything else at all on that peak? It looks pretty barren.
Good Evening JFB, Yes, there are a couple of buildings with several antennas that belong to the USAF just south of the cell site. Just to the north, the State of Utah has a building that houses a couple of amateur repeaters, a NOAA weather station, Utah Highway Patrol base and repeater stations, Nevada Highway Patrol base station, UCAN (Utah Communications Network) 800MHz trucked system of 5 channels, Justice Wireless Network (DOJ) repeater and various State of Utah microwave links. This site is about four miles west of Wendover and about two miles north of I-80. From here you can get a great view of the Bonneville Salt Flats to the east. I really enjoy the "cell site" part of the forums. I'll post more when I get a chance to photograph and research the sites near me. Have a great weekend - Rocky.
You seem to get around a lot, Rocky, and also take your camera with you everywhere you go!! Any other cell carriers on/near that mountain that you saw? If it's 4 miles west of Wendover, shouldn't it be in NV??? Does Verizon still use SID 94 there then? Seems like the site has microwave backhaul. does anybody know how much data a microwave backhaul can handle at any given time?
Andy I think you are right that should be in NV but that is ok. I go to Wendover quit often and I love it out there. The slots are very loose.
I actually tried to look up the destination on my GPS but two numbers are missing that I need so I cant tell for sure.
OOPS...Sorry...That should be 4 miles east of Wendover. This site is in Utah. This is the only cellular carrier on this hill. There is another hill about 1.5 miles sw of this site that has several towers on it but I didn't have time to check that one out. I'll try the next time I am in the area.
I need to start posting a few more pictures as well. I can take pictures of VZW towers where they have added the 1900 panel, so we can see the difference of before and after.
Quite a lot. One of my local site has MW links to about 10 other 900/3G sites and backhauls all these sites back to the switch in Central Auckland. 3G sites use a lot of bandwidth, so the fact MW can carry 10x3G sites back to the switch indicates that it can carry quite a lot! Regards, James
