This cell phone tower has MetroPCS.
Again with the not going on the top of the tower and also leaving out a panel on each sector thingy.
A couple of notes here. A lot of the time, carriers wont go to the top of the pole because they simply do not need to. They can provide the coverage filler they need without going too high.
And, for quite some time now, almost all Sprint installs have been 1 pannel set ups. All CDMA/IDEN hybrids have 1 CDMA pannel.
So, 1 panel is ok to cover a good area? It's just odd that iPCS would do the whole 1 panel thing.
1 panel is all that is necessary.
Ok, so I figured out that the new carrier in the area is actually MetroPCS, not iPCS going crazy. So, MetroPCS uses 1 panel per sector?
If the tower was built by MetroPCS, they may have a lease for the top of the tower lined up, or it could be another carrier's tower where MetroPCS is leasing, but was first to act. CF--keep an eye on the tower and see if anyone co-los. Also, any tower company signs?
I don't believe they would pay for a taller tower than necessary unless they have some kind of plan for it.
The tower wasn't built by MetroPCS. That tower has been there for a while and for as long as I've driven by that area, it's always been empty. So I imagine a carrier must have been on it before and then maybe after a buyout, they left. I know American Tower owns the site. So it must be MetroPCS leasing the site, and just chose to go lower down on the tower. But the thing is, on all the sites that MetroPCS has added on, they've always been on sites with carriers already on them so they locate way down.
