Telecom Hillsborough Road

A more recent site, possibly CDMA-only, built by Telecom to cover the gap on the busy Hillsborough Road. It is, unusually for telecom, co-located with the local BP station.

Close-up of Base Station. It's very simalar to the type used for Microcells, hence the reason why I think this is a CDMA only site as I don't think this equipment cabinet could support a AMPS TDMA and CDMA site.

Interesting to see this placed right by a gas station since the gas station chains always tell you not to use your cell phone at the pumps :D

Well I'm sure you will be amused to learn that this is not the only site at a petrol station -- I'm aware of at least one other site with a simalar configuration at yet another BP station!

Carriers in the states usually shy away from gas stations for environmental reasons - especially carriers with big-heavy shelters that require substantial digging for the piers/pad or whatever. And digging a footer for a new pole is almost always out of the question. I have noticed a couple gas station sign colos like this one though. There's one on an Exxon sign in Scranton, PA.

This is a very interesting setup- I've never seen anything like this before!

On a side note: I wish I would have stumbled across all the pictures you've posted so far earlier; they are simply amazing!
