This one is hard to find. It's an old ATT site with only 2 panels. Interestingly enough, Cingular just filed for a permit to add 7 new panels to this site. There's sure a lot of coax coming out of that panel.

It's also an odd location to mount an antenna by American standards since most of the time they're mounted on a pole, mast or roof. They might move the antenna panels to the roof since lining up 7 panels on that short segment is a bit tight.

It's a bit amusing how Cingular is going back to their local governments for permission to build sites where they built sites already...but sold those old sites to T-Mobile.

This may be one of those.

No, this was always an ATT Wireless site. Cingular acquired it when they bought AWS. So I'm glad they are going to keep it and expand it. They also re-did the panels on the ATT site near my house so they are going to keep it also. (I like that) Makes sense 'cause most of the ATT sites have 850Mhz already running.

Why would they need 7 more panels? I thought that adding capacity doesn't require adding panels?

This site is a great site location for this area, but currently only covers 2 sectors. But my guess, by the number of panels, is that they plan on covering the other sector, and/or they're adding to it to make it into an 850/1900 GSM/UMTS site.

Did cingular get their permit approved?
    • adgsteve
Yes, they did. But they haven't made any changes to the site yet. I'm keeping an eye on it since it's only a couple miles from my house. I'll post an update after they change it.
