Nextel COW's at Dover Race

This is one of many COW's at the race track, these are the only set I could see in the Infield, I had full coverage with Cingular & don't know if they had a COW or a tower near by

Man that is cool do the have towers at every track??
    • Fire14
Yes, especially since Nextel sponsor's the race (well Sprint/Nextel now) they are all over the infield & outside the track, I also believe Cingular does the same thing just couldn't find there COW's but saw other one's around the track, had great coverage there.

Nah, Cingular ust has a tall tower up the road and now also next to the mall thank god. Nextel also has a 15-25 foot tower in the Applebees parking lot pointing towards the stadium. I think between that, their regular towers, and the COWS it was overkill!

what is a cow and whay are they called that?

A COW stands for "Cellular On Wheels" and is a portable tower/cell unit that can be towed to area's when either additional coverage or replacement coverage is needed.
When the Hurricane's hit FL & New Orleans, the carriers brought these units in to get coverage working while the towers were down from the storms.

There are other use's such as T-Mobile has them all along the NJ Garden State Pkwy to provide coverage in gaps, since they can't get towers in these needed locations.

      Hope this helps.
