Mt Albert Research Centre

Woosh Wireless and Counties Power (wireless broadband providers) are at this site, which has a pretty good view of the area east of Mount Albert. I need to take some pixs of this one again with my proper camera.

Woosh Wireless is a wireless broadband company using UMTS to provide their service. I'm one of their customers, so I'm quite keen to track down their cell sites as well as those of the cellular networks. Counties Power is another wireless broadband provider. I'm not sure what sort of technology CP is using apart from the fact its frequency is quite high, requiring customers to be 100% LOS, whereas Woosh only requires near LOS.

In the above picture you can see Woosh's antennas on both sides of the building. Counties Power have a small blue-ish antenna just a little bit to the right of the middle of the building. It looks more like a grey blob in this picture so I shall come back to this site whenever I can and take some proper pix with optical zoom.

The above picture is of the other side of the building. Woosh has 1 more antenna on this side while Counties Power does not have any for some reason. I suspect this site was built to cover a very specific hole for CP, therefore no need to have an antenna on this side. Also there are some microwave dishes hidden behind these boards at the top-middle of the building too. Note there is no board on the other side but there is one on this side.

thats pretty neat, putting them on a building.

Yep and the building is so big it makes the antennas look rather small too! I doubt the locals are aware that this building has these antennas, unless they are very observant!

That's interesting to have a wireless internet provider offer internet service with UMTS. Having their panels so far up a building will enable them to cover a large area with just this one site.
