I was going to ask the exact same thing about the small square things behind two of the panels. This is something that some Cingular sites in my area have too I believe. I'd also be interested to know if anyone knows an answer to this.

Nice close up...I don't know what the boxes are though.

I think they could be 1900 antennas and/or for UMTS. It seems like they are aimed in reverse azimuth from the 850 antennas to give a total of 6 sectors per site, but I could be completely wrong in my theory.

I don't think that those boxes are antennas, more like amplifiers or something(lol I have no idea what I'm talking about). But who knows.

I beleive the are receiver preamplifiers to boost incoming signals.

In response to the small grey "boxes".... N7RYY is correct. They are power amplifier's, made by Ericsson, to boost reception from phone to tower. All the GSM sites, at least here in Ca., Have them for signal issues.:)

Update to my post on 5-30-2010.....My Pantech phone is actually "parked" on this cell site as I am posting this message today, and I rechecked this site a few hours ago, And it still looks like this. I surprised at low to the ground this tower actually is. I guess its meant to fill a weak area for the Arboretum and the other retail stores in the immediate area. For anyone wondering, it sits directly behind the Neiman-Marcus shopping center and is easily accessible. Which is surprising. I hope it has a good alarm system!

I found out that the correct technical term for the boxes is RRUs (Remote Radio Units), basically puts the radio inches from the antenna to prevent loss on the coaxial cables, instead of putting them in the equipment hut and running the coax up the pole.
