Significant Network Enhancements along New Jersey, Delaware Shorelines Result in Improved Call Quality and Increased Service Area PHILADELPHIA, May 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Cingular Wireless, the nation's second-largest wireless carrier, today highlighted its 2004 commitment to provide outstanding network performance and a world-class wireless experience for Cingular customers along the New Jersey shore and Delaware peninsula. The four and a half million dollar project includes the addition of 14 new cell sites in 2004, which will more than quadruple the investment from the prior year and enhance wireless customers' experience along the New Jersey and Delaware shore points, including major travel routes. New sites are already providing in-building coverage at the three Trump Casinos in Atlantic City, NJ. Additional sites will heighten call quality in the areas of Stone Harbor, Wildwood, Avalon, Burleigh, Sea Isle City, and Rehobeth later this summer. "In preparation for the summer vacation season, we are focusing our resources on increasing coverage and capacity, particularly in these shoreline communities where our customers live, work and play," said James Flynn, vice president and general manager of Cingular Wireless of Delaware and the Philadelphia region. "These improvements will enhance the customer experience and make our great network even better." Cingular has spent more than $215 million over the past two years implementing and deploying an advanced GSM/GPRS network in central and southern New Jersey, Delaware and the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area. GSM is the Global System for Mobile Communications, giving customers the latest technology advances, including phones with greater functionality and unique features, high-speed data connectivity and superior sound quality. With almost 1 billion people in 200-plus countries using this technology, more than 70% of the world's total wireless market is GSM. And what GSM delivers for voice, GPRS technology delivers for data. GPRS, or General Packet Radio System, is an enhancement for GSM that transmits and receives data in packets. It provides consumers with "always-on" connectivity and greater bandwidth and connection speed -- all from a wireless phone. About Cingular Wireless in the Philadelphia region Cingular Wireless Philadelphia serves central and southeastern Pennsylvania, central and southern New Jersey and the state of Delaware. In spring 2003, Cingular announced the Philadelphia region launch of its next generation network using Global System for Mobile (GSM) technology for voice, and General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) for high-speed wireless data. More than 921 million people in 200 countries use GSM technology, which delivers a superior network, the world's widest selection of devices, and faster downloads on games, instant messaging and picture messaging. Over the past two years, Cingular has invested more than $215 million in building this advanced wireless network in Philadelphia and the surrounding area, and in spring 2004, the company announced commercial deployment of wireless services using Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE) technology. About Cingular Wireless Cingular Wireless, a joint venture between SBC Communications (NYSE: SBC) and BellSouth (NYSE: BLS), serves more than 25 million voice and data customers across the United States. A leader in mobile voice and data communications, Cingular is the only U.S. wireless carrier to offer Rollover(SM), the wireless plan that lets customers keep their unused monthly minutes. Cingular has launched the world's first commercial deployment of wireless services using Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE) technology. Cingular provides cellular/PCS service in 43 of the top 50 markets nationwide, and provides corporate e-mail and other advanced data services through its GPRS, EDGE and Mobitex packet data networks. That is good news for people going down to the shore, especially further south, I guess between them and the AT&T systems in NJ we will never have a coverage problem after the merger. Not that i have been having problems with AT&T now, but it will be even better and will help with the additional people using the system when the merger goes thru.

If they're 850 MHz then T-Mobile can't roam on it. | |

Even if they are 1900Mhz, T-Mobile won't roam on those towers because they will be on the 410 network. Not part of the joint venture.

It's 850 GSM coverage by Cingular in Delaware. I wish they'd improve coverage in Bethany Beach, all carriers suck pretty bad there. Maybe the Rehobeth sites can cover the area better. This is certainly good news though |
