Default Cablevision to sell wireless using Sprint

Cablevision sells Sprint PCS service
By Jason Ankeny

May 2, 2005 5:03 PM

Cablevision will add Sprint PCS wireless service to its Optimum Store Online retail site, the MSO announced today.

Available exclusively to Cablevision subscribers, the Optimum Store Online--which currently offers electronics products like digital cameras, MP3 players and home networking equipment--will now feature a dedicated toll-free number that connects callers with a Sprint sales representative. For each line of Sprint PCS service activated, customers will receive a $70 Optimum cash rebate that can be used on Cablevision video, voice and Internet services.

"Cablevision is showing great innovation in the bundling of its core services," said Dave Bottoms, Sprint's vice president of strategic partnerships, in a statement. "The availability of Sprint PCS service through unique programs like the Optimum Store Online will have significant appeal to Cablevision's base of tech-savvy customers."

Last month, Sprint announced it would partner with Time Warner Cable to launch a Sprint PCS-branded wireless service in Kansas City, Mo.

I wonder if Comcast will do something similar.

I did hear a rumor about Comcast looking into doing something similar, but that was a while ago & I haven't heard anything since.

I thought Cablevision was going to setup an MVNO

I would think that Comcast might want to get into the MVNO market after being gone from wireless since 1999 to do a bundle to defend there cable assets in Verizon Fios markets.
