| http://www.wirelessweek.com/index.as...F05&starting=3 Whether a customer needs roadside assistance or driving directions, Sprint is ready to deliver, thanks to a pair of newly introduced location-based services (LBS). The Roadside Rescue subscription runs $4 per month and gives Sprint customers the ability to request roadside assistance, as well as have their location pinpointed. Sprint said it has the ability to deliver turn-by-turn driving directions to a location based on a customer's whereabouts. Infonxx powers the Sprint PCS Directory Assistance service. Customers will be charged $1.25 per directory assistance call, plus airtime usage. The pair of location-based services represents what Sprint calls its first stage of LBS offerings. "Ultimately, we envision a host of new location-based applications, which will complement our existing voice and data services, and dramatically simplify and enhance the way people connect through wireless technology," said Joe Averkamp, Sprint's director of business development. Among the possible LBS applications are traffic information, detailed maps and points of interest, according to Sprint. Here's another link |

interesting, so this is not your basic road side assistance deal, it gives you a little extra.

What's LBS? Load of BS? Anyway, that's very cool from Sprint. Hopefully other carriers will follow. Everyone else is surely behind when it comes to GPS. Ironically, Nextel seems to be ahead of the pack on that one, probably because they don't need to worry about upgrading to 3G which is what has all other carriers busy for now. Nextel just needs to lay down and be acquired.

It seems very nice to me that there is no additional charge for the services (ie the cost of 411 was $1.25 before as well). | |

I originally thought this thread was about how sprint users tend to be fat.

Sounds like you need to start a new poll... Haha. "How many Sprint users are fat?"
