Banned from charging their cellphones at work The low cost Irish airline, RyanAir has imposed a ban on staff charging their mobile phones while at work - claiming that the few seconds spent plugging a phone into a charger is too much of a distraction. A story in the tabloid newspaper, The Mirror cited staff who claimed that their colleagues were furious about the ban. Headed "Power Mad", it quoted a worker saying: "The implication is they are accusing people of stealing electricity by charging a mobile phone." The ban comes despite Europe's biggest low-cost carrier reporting profits of 20million in the last quarter of 2004. Experts say fully charging a mobile from the mains costs less than a penny in electricity. A Ryanair spokeswoman said "We do not think that using a mobile phone charger in the workplace is acceptable. At a conference that I attended last year on SMS marketing, where a RyanAir manager was speaking, it transpired that the company's cost cutting actually encouraged staff to take courtesy pens whenever they visited other company offices.

I'm sure no one in the CEO office would dare charge their mobile phone either, right?
