    News Nielsen release US mobile market statistics for Q1 2012

    U.S. smartphone ownership has passed the halfway point, with 50.4% of mobile users now owning smart devices, up from 47.8% in 2011. While the Android OS is found on almost half of all smartphone devices, it's Apple who are the number one handset manufacturer so far in 2012.

    <snip>

    It also seems that women are slightly ahead of their male counterparts in smartphone usage, with 50.9% of females owning smartphones compared to 50.1% of men.

    Talking about spinning the glass half empty! 0.9% difference?

    Sounds like men and women are more equal than different (no obvious jokes please).

    However, 50.1 + 50.9 equals 100%???

    OK, I'll go with a less obvious joke -- maybe EEs & physicists ought to leave the math alone

    First, 50.9 - 50.1 comes out to 0.8, not 0.9.
    Second, could you please kindly explain just what makes you think that the two numbers added together should come out to a 100?

    If you're so insistent on adding the two together, don't forget to divide by two and conclude that 50.5% of all mobile phone users are smartphone users

    Actually amongst my circle of women friends about 75% own Smartphones and amongst the men about 50% or so. The statistics changes to near 100% in both genders for the teenage and young adults group.

    Interesting, I went from the OS with highest market share, 48.5% to one with the lowest, 1.7%

    I see an equal amount of both men and women carrying smartphones around. It is weird but a lot of the nurses who I work with are still carrying around old time flip non smartphone devices. Out of the ones who do have a smartphone, about 10 of us have iPhones while one or two have an android on Verizonicon's network. All of the male and female Docs have iPhones as the IT dept. at the hospital has created programs that make it easier for them to do some things from home.
