Default SaskTel Enters Network Sharing Agreements with Bell, Telus

SaskTel, today announced they have entered into a wireless network sharing agreements with Bell and Telus that will facilitate the rapid deployment of next generation wireless and data services through Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) and High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) technologies within Saskatchewan. Customers will enjoy the benefits of the most advanced wireless technology commercially available in the world, expanded network coverage, and access to a range of new and leading-edge wireless devices.

With today's announcement, the new HSPA network will deliver high-speed mobile access to 94% of the Canadian population across 1.4 million square kilometres. With more than 21,000 Canadians cities and towns covered, the all-new network will serve rural and remote locations as well as it does urban areas, making mobile access as fast at the farm or cottage as it is in the city. It will also offer the technology for increased wireless data download speeds of up to 21 megabits per second, access to a world class selection of compelling mobile devices and international roaming service to more than 200 countries.

SaskTel initially announced its next generation network plans as part of its overall 2009 network investment program which will ensure 100% High Speed Internet coverage in Saskatchewan and 98% cellular coverage. SaskTel's UMTS/HSPA network will be initially launched mid-2010 with a targeted completion date of 2011.

Canadian carriers' fast-track deployment of UMTS is impressive. Smart move by SaskTel.

Rogers is in for quite a challenge, which is a good thing.

On a side note, this is very good news for the denizens of Dog River...

ha ha

Yep, Brent, Hank and everyone else will be quite happy to hear the news. If they still made episodes, this could've been a perfect idea for their next one.

In Estonian "Sääsk" means "mosquito"...I keep thinking "why would anyone name their network after a mosquito?" ....but I guess most Canadians would associate "Sask" with "Saskatchewan" and not the Estonian word for mosquito... ...unless you're an Estonian-Canadian...but then you'd probably be living in Toronto and not Saskatchewan...

...anyway, back to the topic of SaskTel: if I understand correctly, SaskTel is building UMTS in Saskatchewan only, and made an agreement to allow their subscribers to roam on Bell and Telus when outside of their home network? Or is SaskTel planning to build outside of Saskatchewan?

Good ol' Mosquito Wireless.... Possibility for a new logo icon if they ever decided on changing it.

Perhaps *Sask* stands for *Sasquatch*? . That would make some terrific commercials.

Btw, thanks for posting Canadian Wireless News, I really enjoy learning & knowing what is going on there as I am sure others do as well.

Ha ha, yeah, even better Charlyee. Seems like we could come up with some good promos for this company.

...how about Sasquatch surfing his netbook in the woods over a 3G connection surronded by a bunch of Estonian mosquitoes? "Bringing 3G to all walks of life..."

....don't worry Charlyee and Der84, if they go with that commercial, I'll split the money with you guys ...unfairly and in my favour of course

I second Charlyee's thanks and also agree with Charlyee, as I greatly appreciate the posting of wireless goings on in Canada.

Thanks Mike, but I can't take all the credit, as I just find out about this info while reading it in other places. But I'm happy to post on here for everyone else to see and post the source of the article too.

R.R. you're a natural, ha ha.

It would be quite odd though, that after posting this you see that commercial on tv, as if someone on here might've taken the idea, and used it. We might have to keep an eye on that.
