I'd like to see open-source Linux-based software really take hold. Symbian is also Linux-based, but I'm not sure how "open-source" it is exactly, since Nokia owns it and dumps alot of money into it. If Android is owned and funded by Google, how "open and free" is it compared to Symbian?

...ops, I'm comparing Android to Symbian and the article was Android vs Win Mob. Anyway, I think it's safe to say WM has been loosing ground. Personally, I don't like it and would favour something Linux based....

That is an Interesting article about the shift. I might have to look into an Android phone for Verizon when my next phone upgrade is due late next year.

I'm pondering the Motoroloa Cliq to replace my BB Pearl. I am really interested in Android, and will have a BB From work so maybe I don't need two of them.

I am really interested in Android too. Was thinking of getting a Cliq, but now that the HD2 looks to becoming out on T-Mo next month it's WM for me. It is true that companies are moving away from WM, but the guy isn't very knowledgeable about smartphone history.

If you don't like Windows mobile is because you've used it.

LOL! that is the truth. I ordered a Samsung Omnia once on Verizon and returned it just a mere two hours after having it. I didn't like the phone but Windows Mobile was a big part of the reason why I didn't like the phone, I didn't care for the OS at all. As far as Mobile OS's go I'd rank Windows Mobile at the bottom.

I'm getting my BB for work on Monday, so I am just about positive I'll be getting a Cliq this week.

Thank-You Bobolito, Matt & All for this thread and your input. I currently have a S.E. Equinox w/T-Mobile, but am realizing I need something with a more robust e-mail so I can get attachments. Also need to have an easier back-up system so if I change/upgrade phones, I don't have to keep re-entering manually by hand all my contacts, calendar info, etc. I had a BlackBerry which had the Desktop Mgr...that's why I was wondering if Android, Palm, Windows, etc was any better...considering my needs. What is the back-up system like for Android? Windows may not be good for I don't have Outlook on my computer at home...only this thing called "One Note".

Also plan to switch back to Verizon from T-Mobile due to most of my friends and family are on that network. Thinking about the HTC Droid Eris for Android.

Thanks again!
Chris

My Cliq uses the MOTOBLUR, which backs up contact information and stores in on their servers. Also, there's a T-Mobile backup functionality as well, although I don't think that's "everything". Finally, I also use google sync which keeps everything together.

Thanks Matt for the info. I may look into a Google/Android devise...leaning more towards the HTC MyTouch. If I go back to VZW, then it'll be the HTC Droid-Eris. Kinda like their products, unless there is something about the Cliq you like better?!?

I'm trying to get away from T-Mobile's back-up system, as you can see on a previous post where I "ranted" for awhile. T-Mobile's own system is very unpredictable...very frequently when adding new contacts in, especially if you do it on the phone, it'll duplicate/triplicate and "mix" contacts. T-Mobile really needs to do something to that system. I've tried explaining to reps/tech's that they need to have it so you can designate either the phone or the website as the master. Think when the update goes back/forth, it ends up with the errors I've been experiencing.

That's why I was considering going back to a BlackBerry. Seems easier to maintain everything through BB's Desktop Manager...unless you think Android's is better.

Thanks again!
Chris

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 1.5; en-us; MB200 Build/CUPCAKE) AppleWebKit/528.5+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.2 Mobile Safari/525.20.1)

I don't know about other android devices. I like the motoblur interface. I haven't used the tmo backup either as I have used google sync for some time with my bb. The bb manager is easy to use.
