Prepaid Wireless Is Financially Sensible Alternative for Student Cell Phone Service as Tuition Costs Rise and Economy Declines; Students Benefit From No Roaming, Traveling or Long Distance Fees With Boost 'Monthly Unlimited' Service

IRVINE, CA--(MARKET WIRE)--Mar 10, 2009 -- Boost Mobile shook up the wireless industry in January when it launched a new prepaid plan offering unlimited anytime nationwide calling, text messaging, wireless Web and walkie-talkie services with a national calling area for $50 a month. Initial response from consumers to the 'Monthly Unlimited' is exceeding what Boost had anticipated and the prepaid division of Sprint Nextel now expects the offer will be very attractive to students seeking to better manage expenses as tuition costs rise and the economy continues to decline.

It's a good thought. The gimmick definitely lured me, a full time college student looking for cheap unlimited plans, in.

THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT TEXTING ON THE BOOST NETWORK IS A NIGHTMARE! (And calling isn't much better!)

Check out virginmobileusa.com They use Sprints CDMA network. You don't get the unlimited web but unlimited text is only ten dollars a month extra. Plus in my opinion I think they have nicer phones.

I agree that Virgin Mobile is a good company. I had them for over two years, but I was on the pay as you go plan, and they kept hiking my rates on talk and text, and their customer service wasn't very helpful. Add on top of that the fact that in the area that I lived previously, I could barely get decent reception, I was ready to explore other companies. At this point I'm almost ready to go back to them because they do have good service in the area that I live in most of the time now, even though they are more expensive. Overall, I did have a better experience with VirginMobile, and I agree that most of their phones are better. I had a SuperSlice, and until the case broke in half from being in my pocket and having pressure put on it, it was an excellent phone. And it was still a decent phone after that happened. haha
