Sprint Nextel CTO Barry West yesterday stated that their mobile WiMax service is overcoming initial delays caused by a shortage of decent backhaul bandwidth and some glitches in the project's billing systems. West says that the service will officially launch this September in Baltimore, with DC and Chicago launches coming shortly thereafter. He also says some 575 Xohm WiMAX base station sites are currently live, with a number of devices still in testing. well we all know that backhaul issues means SprintLink and how capable it is of handling CDMA iDEN and WiMax all at the same time. this is why they announced their project to work out the kinks and bottlenecks in their backbone andto get all the networks on one platform to get them to work seamlessly together. so my two questions are....how will Sprint apply WiMax? will WiMax bebilled using ENSEMBLE? and if so what kind of billing system problems were they experiencing?

| I'm not sure if they'll use ensemble, when I went through the training and asked about it, they kinda hinted that they'll be on a different system. I know there's been a lot of billing errors because a lot of agents aren't correctly trained with ensemble, but its a lot easier than the other system. I forget which it is, I really haven't used it. But wouldn't a new customer support center be need to support the WiMax because of the Xohm merger and Clearwire? I don't think Sprint had a problem with the backbone, its like what TelcomJunkie said, it was the last mile connection. I remember reading somewhere that they said it was to expensive for mircowave backhaul and it was hard to get fiber out to some of the sites.
