I have been thinking about this long and hard. I have decided to defect from Verizon. I can't stand having such a useless boring phone. I've been watching and researching the iPhone for a while now and with this new release I am ready to join ranks. I love Apple products, so this seems to be the next best thing for me. I can say, I do love this forum where i can learn more things before making this jump. But I am convinced.

Okay, so here i go, into wild blue yonder. July 11th, here I come.

Get your chair and your cooler ready and stand in front of the AT&T store at 3AM!

So this means that the new iPhone will cost $100 per year more to operate than the Blackberry.

Great job Apple. Lost me as a customer.

Aww Naww!! An AT&T Rep told me that i could buy the phone and sign up for new service when the phone came out. I explicitly asked him if i had to come in to AT&T to do it and he said No.

Where did you get this info from? They are really going to make people go to the AT&T store?!?!?! Aww Man! Can I just get it from Apple then, through iTunes?

Please say it ain't so!! Say it ain't so!!!

Yeah but at $100 more per year, every year.

BB is $30 per month, Iphone is $38+ per month, plus whatever SMS plan you wish to add.

I believe you can get it either from th Apple Stores or from at&t Stores, but not over the internet. It will be activated at the store itself.

viewfly, the BBs, the PDAs, and the new iPhone will all be $30 for unlimited data + extra for messaging. What you canot do is use the $20 Media Unlimited that was allowed for the first generation iPhones. Atleast that is what my understanding is from at&t"s press release.

The biggest surprise to me is the July 11th release date. I wonder what that's about? Oh well, it really doesn't make any difference. Nonetheless, I think they've really got a winner on their hands now. They've added the expected things needed to make this a truly great phone.
I like your avitar mike On july first are you going to get the 3g iphone?

Yes, unlimited media net for the 6131 is now only $15. What I don't understand (and I PM'd you) is whether for $30, I would get BB-like push email for gmail, earthlink, or other providers. Or does one have to get Apple's MobileMe to get that?

Thanks, Charlyee

No, I'm going to wait a while. I'm not on contract with AT&T and would like to remain so. Since AT&T is getting heavy-handed about activations with this one, I'll wait until my T-Mobile contract is up soon and then re-sign with AT&T for the 2 years.

Also, I'm quite pleased with the first iPhone. It's unlocked and being used with T-Mobile. Since there isn't an extreme difference between version 1 and 2, I can wait on it.

it says on the tech specs on the web site that it is capable of UMTS/HSDPA 850, 1900, AND 2100 MhZ

why would it need 2100 capability??? because AWS requires 1700 and 2100

Apple is not customizing the bands for anyone. The 2100 band is for UMTS/HSDPA in Europe and elsewhere. AWS bands have nothing to do with it.

Trying to use the 3G iPhone with T-Mobile 3G is not an option. The new iPhone has all it needs to work with AT&T only (for 3G, that is).

While perusing the iPhone section of Apple's site, I checked the different country-specific pages to see if the specifications were any different, and they weren't. This told me that Apple has included everything it needs to operate 3G in most countries. They may do some tweaking for Japan, but that's about it.

Yes, no different than the Treo 750, The Tilt, Blackjack II and a couple of other at&t devices. I am glad at&t is carrying these quad band GSM, triband UMTS/HSDPA devices.

That's correct. Maybe the iPhone 3.0 will have AWS since AT&T has some spectrum there. We'd have to wait to 2009 for that.
