Verizon will NOT be offering qChat - Sprint HAS the EXCLUSIVE rights to qChat. Here is more on the story... Verizon's next-gen PTT is not QChat - Engadget Mobile (Discuss below) |

Whether it's "QChat" masquerading as "BREWChat", I don't care. I'm just glad they're getting rid of the old POS push-to-talk system they've been using in the past. Thanks Engadget for the clarification.

HUH you know it would be kind of cool if they both could have it and came to a roaming agreement where you could use this on each others networks. wishful thinking I know.

| Would be so cool, but as you said, it is wishful thinking. Maybe when hell freezes over or pigs fly...

Too bad there will be no PTT interoperability between any of the providers... I imagine that this is a turn off for many non business users...

In a way this is good because Sprint really needs something that's exclusive to them. In the old days they were always the first ones to bring out new phones and features but over time everyone else caught up and then some.

Well this is really disappointing news for me.... I was hoping that everyone would eventually switch to qchat it and we would eventually have interoperability with all the carriers... guess we wont be seeing something like this anytime soon

| I thought Qualcomm had offered Qchat to Nextel as a bribe to get them to go CDMA four or five years ago when they were still independent. I thought Sprint getting Qchat exclusively was already widely known.

the thing about QCaht is that it is completely data based which means its VoIP which therefore means it will work on any data network that meets its thoroughput requirements.......EV-DO Rev A is the bare minimum but LTE would be able to support a lot more.....
