| http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/050207/japan_vodafone_2.html Japanese Unit of Vodafone Brings in New President From Britain TOKYO (AP) -- The Japanese unit of Vodafone Group PLC on Monday appointed a Vodafone veteran, William T. Morrow, as its new president, replacing an executive who was hired away from a rival only two months ago. Morrow, who is currently president of Vodafone UK, replaces Shiro Tsuda at Vodafone KK effective April 1. Tsuda was hired away from industry leader NTT DoCoMo Inc., and will stay on as executive chairman and will become chairman of the board at Vodafone KK, the company said in a news release. After introducing services in Japan that allow people to send photos taken on their cell phones as mobile e-mail attachments, Vodafone has been losing ground to DoCoMo and KDDI Corp., another rival. Monthly data released Monday showed Vodafone KK suffered a net loss of 58,700 subscribers in January, reflecting its continued troubles in attracting new users. Tsuda's appointment stunned corporate Japan, where headhunting management from rivals is still relatively unusual. Vodafone executives said they chose Tsuda, 58, because of his experience in the Japanese market, including his work with "i-mode," the hit Internet-linking mobile service at NTT DoCoMo. Japan is among the most competitive cell phone markets in the world, with some of the most technologically demanding customers. All carriers in Japan have introduced third generation, or 3G, phones that allow users to watch video clips and download music, and have videophone capabilities. Morrow has worked in the United States, Belgium, Japan and Britain. He has been part of the Vodafone group for eight years. Tsuda said in a statement that Morrow's appointment would strengthen the Japanese unit's management. "Under this dual leadership structure, we will work to improve results and strengthen our competitiveness over the mid to long term," Tsuda said. |

This is just an outlook of what will happen in the US wireless market when it reaches the saturation point.
